I have thought I have felt indifference before... it felt cold, empty... like a dessert of nothing... kinda scary and kinda safe... is that indifference?

Joe used to be really really close to his mother. His mother is a very invasive person who tried to change him for 30 years.Joe tried to set 'bounderies' and he got guilt trips, tears, and questions at why he was so hurtful to her. At 31 Joe was so angry he almost hated her. He moved away. Joe flourished in self confidence and anxiety started to slip away without someone looking over his shoulder, telling him what he was doing wrong. But lately Joe has not been angry at her. He has not felt love for her. He felt nothing. Sad about the relationship, but his feelings for his mother where absent. No good, no bad. Nothing. When he looked at her... there was just still air. Could this be indifference? Now he swings between love, anger, and absolutely nothing.

My questions are:

1) is the 'nothing' indifference?
2)when swinging between anger and love, and suddenly 'nothing' appears... is that the road to permanent indifference if nothing changes?

I want to change the akward relationship I have with my moms side of the family. I love them very much, but we have different views of the world. Whenever I visit them (once in a year or every two years), I completely lose who I am, I fall apart, get depressed, I stutter, I'm silent at times, I don't make sense, lose my confidence, feel and say unintelligent things, become blind, think about death. Why is that? When I'm home, I'm completely normal. I don't have any of these problems. I'm as happy as can be. Even now that I'm in college, I still feel like this. Why can't I get over it? They're into their tradition, I'm not. They believe in god, I don't. They probably think that since I'm majoring in music, I must be as stupid as hell. I don't want them to dislike me because of who I am, so I'll block them first. Please, don't advise me to see a psychologist.
Today they all called in to say "Happy Birthday" I love them, but I get this horrible feeling in my stomach when they all contact.

I received this message just now from someone who asked a question about PMS. Her premise was that only 5% of the women experience it and that it was a proven fact because her professor told her so. So she wanted to know why so many women fake PMS. I then did research on it and proved that she had her facts wrong. Either she misheard her professor or her professor got it wrong, and that the correct problem was PMDD, a very rare and disturbing form of PMS. I followed it up with links to websites. She sent me the email (which I will add as added details, and I am sure you can hear the consending tone) and then deleted the question. I feel that she just didn't like to be proved wrong, and was upset that her little world was shattered.

My town has a man that had a sledding accident years ago. According to rumor, he was the popular guy then. Now he is a guy that needs help and kids pick on him every day. I have a 9 year old daughter that sees the best in people. I want to help this guy get the best of life with what he has been dealt. I do talk to him when I see him but it is tough because of his speech. His brain has been damaged from the accident and its hard to get through to him when you speak to him. Nobody in this town wants to help him, but I do. How do I get through to him and make him realize I am and not trying to pick but help? My wife is a hair stylist and wants to trim his crusty mop. He has been without help so long that he can't understand someone wanting to help. Its very sad that this guy has to go through everyday living this way. I just want to make it better for him. Please, some help here.

Perhaps, it may be a half fact since after that word he spoken out, he often avoid me when I start to mingle with him and intentionally spoke me a harsh word. Did he have a plan to make me angry? Is he just joking? Honestly, we have a close competition in academic matter. Is this fight involve in this matter? Hope there is someone who can make me an advise........

Why do I seem to get bored so easily and lose interest so fast? What's wrong with me? Thrill appears to be so important to me that if I don't get it I become melancholic and moody at once.

Why is it that when some people are confronted with hard logical, faultlessly calculated and correct facts, they choose not to change their understanding? Answer that one?

Okay, here is my experiment. I am going to have four tables each with four different colors nail polish. Infront of the nail polish will be small plaques that have their names. Some will have long, (silly) names and others will have plain names such as "red" or "blue." Then we will offer free medicures to young girls and ask them to choose their table, and then color in 10 seconds. So I am studying if the more in-depth names have an effect on choice. I really need some good background research. Please help. I need a few pages by January 8th. Thanks.

While I was watching Nightmare Before Christmas for some reason I kept like feeling tears in my eyes in different bits of the movie, this is not the first time that I saw the movie, and by the way I am a 17 year old boy. Am I a sissy?

So my parents every year decide they are going to do a cetain thing for us four kids during Christmas. Since it is my step-dad and mom, my brother and I usually give gifts to each toher and my mom and step-dad, we dont usually buy for our step-brother/sister and vise versa. So my step-siblings this year decided to tell my parents they were only going to do for their onw children and noone else, no problem, i never expect anything from them, but dang my brother and I still bought for our parenst as they are our parents and our parets have been wonderful to us over the years.

the question I have is actually why my ste-siblings who have acually been more well tajen care of than my borther and I feel they can shirk their responsibilty as children to even get our parents a freaking card? I mean there was nothing, alos they ungraciously accept our parents gifts as if they were expecting more?

How can they have the nerve to act so superior to the rest of us?
how can they be so arrogant

I have a mother that seems to have a drinking problem. She tries to hide her drinks, act like she hasn't drunken anything, or just anything she can possibly do to hide the fact that she doesn't have a problem with it. It seems as if she has to drink everyday or VERY close to everyday.

I've talked to her more than 25 times it counting, no lie. I've prayed for years. I've tried to pour out her drinks/bottles. I've done EVERYTHING I could possible do.

It seems like nothing will help me. What should I do?

She tells me she'll quit more than 20 times, and never has. She's sweared, promised, and all that. I'm scared for her because I know it's possible to get lung cancer, and she's already had surgery for a tumor in her stomach, so it makes me even MORE scared.

Someone PLEASE tell me what to do. I've been as patient as I could.

She's 23, and recently had a bad breakup and problems with her family coming from it. I've talked and comforted her but she's still seriously thinking about suicide. I can't follow her around all day so are there any simple methods i can use? Please don't give answers that involve involving someone else.

Anyone else like this? For example today we went to my aunts to celebrate Christmas. There is about 15 of us in this house and its pretty small for all of us. I got really uncomfortable. Like I had no escape. I got nervous and really felt nauseous. I just couldn't wait to leave. I have noticed I do that when I go to crowded places. Also when I ride in cars. I get uneasy. I prefer to drive myself. I feel most comfortable when I am in control. Its not that I do not enjoy going out. I do enjoy going but only when I know there isn't a crowd and I can drive. I consider myself a homebody but I do not consider myself a hermit. I just don't know what is wrong with me? Is this some kind of condition to be like this? I made it through the day okay but I hardly ate when at aunts adn just kept moving around to keep calm. Its kind of uncomfortable because I wish I could just sit still. I have accepted me being this way, but anyone else like this or close.
