In Gestalt theory people have closed gestalts. "Finished Business" If you threaten a part of a gestalt then the whole thing falls apart. Then a person has to somehow close it again.

When confronted with facts, no matter where they come from, or who says them, someone who is sure in their heart of a fact that they believe because of a spiritual experience, the spirit will win every time.
I know that I know that I know that I am saved by Jesus Christ, and nothing will change my mind, ever. I had an experience that overrides any man-made logic you can come up with. The Holy Spirit of God has assured me that I'm a child of God. It's just that simple. Deal with it.

I think a lot of times it is because that means they would have to say they were wrong and they don't want to admit they are wrong.. I have people in my life that have been given with proof things on certain issues related to me and my health..they still deny it and say that the doctors are wrong and they are the ones who know everything..doctors know nothing; Most of them don't care to change their understanding because that would mean having to make changes in their life and they don't want to change even if it means helping a friend. Hope that makes sense

Because some people will never admit to being wrong. It seems to threaten their very being, and they'll get angry and defensive if being wrong is even insinuated. My mother is like that. Let them think / believe whatever they want, even if you know / facts prove that it's wrong. That's a whole lot easier than arguing with them.

I have basically asked a very similar question a couple of days ago. A person very dear to me refuses to accept real obvious facts about himself. They are not scientific facts they are facts of life. He prefers to believe his version of things and wallow in self-deception. It is his self-defense but prevents us from moving on. It is really really sad.

All people process information in their own way. What one sees as an irrefutable source and concrete facts and with their life experiences that they have had may accept this information as thus, where as others who have had different life experiences see it as refutable nonsense.

is the syndrome of "I never loose, and if I do I take it from you" and old Mexican saying from people that can´t loose or they feel castrated or worst. Some people are incapable of uttering "I was wrong" or "I don´t know" I call them Ignorants and never give them much thought
