Why do you underestimate the ability of children to know better? I watched cartoons as a child and it never occurred to me that that was the case. My nieces, nephews & friend's children don't have this problem either. Lighten up.

The world of children is mystical and wonderful. Why would we want to take that away from them? There is no Easter , Bunny , No santa , no tooth fairy either. Child hood and all these wonderful things their minds enjoy is a quick fleeting time in their lives, and also the best time they will have in their lives.. Let them keep the joy and do not worry the children who have the best times and enjoy the most with loving parents will be the best grown ups later on.....

After all the perversions that our children are subject too... is it of the greatest priority that we protect our children from thinking that animals have personality.
Aside from that... have you never had a pet with a brain larger than a thumbnail? I have spent time with horses and even large dogs that sense when you are upset and adjust their personality to tend to the situation at hand.
If a wild horse nuzzling up to you after you have broken up with a partner isn't communication and action similar to humans then what is?

The magic of being children, of course that you realized as you grow up that such capacity isn't accurate, at least not at the level portrayed.

Why isn't it acceptable?

And why blame cartoons. Anthropomorphising animals is much, much older than movies and TV.

Anthropomorphizing animals seems OK to me ...the churches have done it for ever,,, as in the eyes of God , the hands of God ....Its my understanding the God does not have eyes ,hands as we know them ....so one does not see a problem with this ...
