ESPECIALLY GOOD MOVIES?

IS IT BECAUSE WOMEN CAN'T ACT?

2007-10-29 21:58:47 · 4 answers · asked by Anonymous

Every single male I know is not worth the time of day.

My father left us when I was 3.
My step dad was an alcoholic, gambling addict and left our family and stole all our money.
My brother is the rudest person I know. He has no manners, he expects everyone to drop everything for him.
I was raped when I was 15 by someone I thought I could trust.
I was sexually abused by a family friend.
My Grandfather is rude and so grumpy all the time.
The boys at my school only talk about their penises.
And now, the only descent male I thought was left in my life has just thrown it all back in my face. I needed someone to talk to and he told me to go away.

Are there actually any males out there that aren't complete jerks? Because I'm having serious trouble finding one.

I posed a question explaining that I am a crossdresser and just want to dress up in something that will make me feel feminine and somewhat preety. I realize that wont every look as beautiful as a normal woman would, but I was just looking for tips and I got some very rude answers.

Here are a few famous quotes:

"I have too many fantasies to be a housewife.... I guess I am a fantasy."

"Some people have been unkind. If I say I want to grow as an actress, they look at my figure. If I say I want to develop, to learn my craft, they laugh. Somehow they don't expect me to be serious about my work."

"In Hollywood a girl's virtue is much less important than her hairdo. You're judged by how you look, not by what you are. Hollywood's a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for kiss, and fifty cents for your soul. I know, because I turned down the first offer often enough and held out for the fifty."

Pretty insightful quotes. Is it because of these sorts of quotes that many feminists, such as Gloria Steinem, have been attracted to Monroe as a sort of feminist figure (or perhaps just a symbol of oppression)? What do you think? Why does Monroe, despite her status as a sex symbol, appeal to some feminists more so than other bombshells?

It seems to me that most words with the suffix ism, like racism, capitalism, nationalism, indicate a belief of supremacy associated with the root word. It also seems that many female feminists that I have met aren't really after equality but are instead after positions of domination over males. Many male feminists seem like supplicants and sycophants to females, and perhaps this does bring some level of equality since it parallels male chauvinism so well.

I mean, why they let pass 20, 25+ years? Couldn't realize before something was wrong? Just stayed together for the sake of the children?

(PD.: If you're a grown, life-hardened person and want to mock my "naive" question, well feel free, but you can trash people classily, did you know that?)

Is it "uncool" for boys to study and do well? Too much video game playing? Too much Internet porn? Whatever the cause, the result is bad for young men -- women in their 20s are outearning them in several major cities. How do we justify this, given that males have every privilege? (And women, seriously -- keep up the good work. Feminism is working.)

When a woman asks, after being with a man through a few kids and many years "why doesn't he want to have sex anymore?" she usually goes through the possible circumstances,- maybe he's cheating, maybe he's watching porn, maybe he's gay, maybe he's not the man I expected he'd be maybe he works too much .... When it seems more than likely from the outside that he's prorbably just tired of looking at you. Isn't that a pretty obvious assumption? It makes sense in most situations. But women want to find a problem with Him, because of course its his fault he doesn't feel like having sex with a woman he's had sex with hundreds of times and seen naked everyday for the past however many years; especially if now you are 30-50 lbs heavier, or you just simply unnerve him on a daily basis! What's difficult to understand about this? Im interested to know what women's thoughts are.

why or why not?

This is a sort of double question. First, are women instinctively better at dishing out invective and verbal abuse than men? Second, who is the better at genuine debate, men or women? Let's take it as read that individuals vary one from the other. Just women as a group as opposed to men as a group.

It would appear so. The words of the feminists are taken at face value without question.

Why?

Because they're "fighting for women" of course. So how can that possibly be wrong?

It is statistically possible that any one group can be right about 100% of what they say & do. If it's not possible to be right about everything, then people should be able to question some of the things that appear false, no?

Well if you question feminism, this translates into either "hating women" or "hating the fact that women have rights."

What a cozy little nook that is. They are perceived as the "noble & all-powerfull-knowers of all things gender related" & there's absolutely nothing that can challenge their assertions.

No need for checks & balances whatsoever.

That's why Andrea Dworkin (I don't care if you're sick of that name. Her "sisters" invited her in for tea & I won't forget that for your convenience) ...Can be celebrated by the fems & no one seems to care.

It's amusing, actually.

Fashion promotes the social double standard society wants to deny even exists. We have the men's area of attire and of course, the women's fashion seem to be the motivating force the clothing industry thrives on. Women obviously have a lot more choices then men do. However, we can often observe women wearing men's attire, even under a "women's brand". Society has come to accept this and even promotes the look. Men, on the other hand, have been degraded for wearing anything resembling feminine apparel. One can only conclude from this practice that femininity is considered a sub gender level to the masculine ideal. To me, this is a double standard.

Is this something you have noticed? If so, Is it something that needs to be addressed more vigorously, so that every one can feel they are treated equally. By the way, are there men who are feminine or have feminine tendencies and likewise, are there women who are masculine or have masculine tendencies?

Why do people think that our ecomomy is suddenly *so* terrible that only the very rich can afford to live on one income? The average one-income married couple makes about $26,000 *less* per year than the average two-income married couple. (source #1) They simply choose to live on less.

Even in the 1930's, most children were raised by family members, not strangers. (source #2) They didn't consider this to be a a "luxury". Does anyone else think it's terribly sad that people are apparently dreaming of the day when they can stay at home with their child?

Is the economy *really* so much worse now than in the 1930's? Or is it just that "time with the kids" is one of the first things on the list of priorities to be given up, not the last? Is this a personal choice or just fate? Does society pressure women to give up staying at home, and if so, shouldn't we object to this coercion?

Whatever you views are on the statistics of who commits more abuse are (you are entitled to those views whether they are supported by factual evidence or not) - in the end does it REALLY matter who does it more?

When women do it - it's wrong.
When men do it - it's wrong.

Do two wrongs make a right?
