why or why not?

I don't care what the excuses are when it comes to superiority as to who is more superior. There is no superiority in society. The only one that reigns superior is your Government that has each and every one of us by their finger. They make the Laws, they pass the Laws and they allow for groups to create Laws for them to pass or deny.

Hatred is a problem in our society. The groups that supports the hatred only promotes it through there ill-defined influence. What more can society do, in order to break down the walls of hatred? The only thing I can say is, not to allow it, but who am I to say. Society already is confused with all the tug-of-war going on with the WILL to HATE. It has already become, second nature.

If you can't beat 'em? Join 'em. But that would be a waste of energy and time.

Sadly, people will always prejudge and stereotype all members of any class based on what only some members of that class do. Thus, we have misandry, and we have misogyny and a host of other hatreds. The goal of all enlightened people is to insure that each individual is treated fairly and not to prejudge anyone merely because they were born male or female.

Please state which society you belong too. This is answers international.
Speaking from my own society, Gba, Argentina, I think gender issues are not a problem here anymore. Women are able of getting into universities just as much as men, and there isnt even a "wage gap" illusion because we both men and women take care of their children as a team, as well as focusing on their careers, although the more importante nurturer is and will always be the mom (in general).
Gentlemanly behaviour isnt dead, and feminists dont argue with it down here.
We also have elected a female president just yesterday (although she sucks, and tricks the poor into thinking she is good for them) and her main "contender" was also a woman.
Then again, we have bigger issues to resolve right now.

Misandry is a problem just like misogyny is. They are both a mishandling of our drive to be superior to others. Men have lots of evidence of their superiority because we've set up our society to specifically encourage men to compete and women to be subordinate. As a result, nobody is surprised when a man excels at most thing, and it's terribly common for men to presume superiority based on a biased sampling.

Misandry is a little different because its causes aren't as obvious. In some cases, it's a case of women looking for any excuse to be considered superior, and presuming that some characteristic that makes women different from men actually results in net superiority. Just because women have to look harder to find superiority doesn't mean that they won't do it. In some cases it's bad logic (women are superior to men because they don't lord over the other sex). In other cases it's a matter of overcompensation (I have to be a misandrist to compensate for all of the misogynists).

In the cases of both misogyny and misandry, it's a matter of playing superiority games based on flawed criterion. Its only real result is hurtful discrimination, flawed assessments, and angry exchanges. There are no benefits. At its best, it's overcompensation for unfair criticism. At it's worst, it's an example of why women wouldn't be any better at running the world than men are.

To an extent. Misandry is generally shown in somewhat tame ways, i.e. portraying men as fat and brainless on TV. You don't see as many men as victims of rape or DV.

Yeah, but so is men hating women and people hating other races , cultures, sexual preferences, tatoos ,piercings, religions, etc...It's that we sometimes dislike the people we don't understand. It's called ignorance, always been around, always will.

A problem of society as a whole: no. Why? Because I don't think it's pervasive.

A problem of certain individuals within society (referring to their own individual experience with it): yes...because some men do experience this sometimes.
