A good person is one who never strikes another person without provocation.

Some girls think its alright to hit a man because he can't hit back. I think those girls should be smacked. At the same time, so one should turn to violence unless physically threatened.

Gentlemanliness is far more than simply refraining from the tort of battery.

One can be a total boor and not hit females. Gentleman? I think not.

Conversely, one can have all the social polish of an old-school British royal in public but be abusive in private. Social graces aplenty, yes. Gentleman? Again, I think not.

All ladies and gentlemen have the privilege of self-defense, which is meeting hostile force with equivalent force. A prudent person will withdraw as soon as he or she is able.

Absent the most compelling circumstances (i.e., to prevent the kidnapping of a child), there is no reason to initiate a physical altercation.

Incidentally: A female who strikes a male without compelling justification (defending a child from an imminent threat, being held against her will, etc) is no lady.

No one should strike anyone, male or female. However, there are men out there who will still physically strike women, with or without provocation. Women are just expected not to fight back or defend themselves. We're just supposed to "take it" just because we're female. If we fight back, we're being "violent."

Many of us can't even mind our own business out in public a lot of times without being verbally insulted or jeered at. Even if we keep our hands to ourselves, we still lose out.

A gentleman never strikes anyone.

There's no such thing as "provocation" to strike another human being. Only a mindless sub-human brute would even think of striking someone.

Must be a hell of provocation, like she purposely threatening my life, or something like that, as nobody would die like a sheep. Otherwise, I simply could not.
This is like saying that a woman being attacked by a rapist shouldn't defend herself with whatever she got at hand, because that is not "ladylike".

No, that's just a man. Anyone who strikes anyone else without provocation is a scared little child.

This statement is outdated. I believe any striking is called assault, but only seems acceptable when a woman strikes a man.

Force should only be used by either gender in self-defense. I don't buy into this "gentleman" business. Right is right, no matter who does it.
