What exactly is crossplay?

I'm not sure what "Crossplay" is, but I know that "COSPLAY" is short for 'Costume Play' & it deals with dressing up in costumes that are related to 'Anime' characters. Here is a link that might help you out: http://www.cosplay.com/

Cosplay is Costume Playing, dressing up in costumes of certain characters that appear in games or Japanese animation.

CROSSplaying is simply crossdressing, actually. Easy for the women to do, but its usually implied for men being dressed in overly feminine dresses. preferably lacy ones.
