I do realize that magazines ads make women look like dead stick bugs and that they make girls throw up and feel bad about themselves. However shouldn't people just get over it rather than complaining about it. As hard as it is to believe some girls actually do look like that and there is nothing you can do to shelter young girls from seeing them and feeling like crap so why do we bother trying to change the way women look in movies, magazines, cartoons and dolls?

Disclaimer - GWS is my usual stomping ground, which explains (I hope) why it's in this category.

You know, the one with Queen Latifah and she is given one month to live so she lives it up? And it got me thinking...

What would you do if you found out you only had one month to live?
Do you think you would laugh more, love more, and quit being so afraid?

I'm sure this question has been asked before. But really think about it.
What would you take a chance on doing that you wouldn't think you'd ever do? And why would it take you dying to do it?

Growing up in Europe, this was considered somewhat barbaric, although it's a must in the culture I was born in. What are the pros and cons? I have heard about "hygiene" reasons but don't really have much knowledge to go either way with my opinion.

Is this a biological gender difference or due to sexism and society's expectations for women? What, if anything, can we do to change things that we have not done yet? Or will women always care more about managing the household than men?

I keep stumbling on Mafiagirl's silly stereotypes and hearsays in questions about marriage and parenthood secions. I am sure, she must have some knowledge on some other subjects, but relationships ( the commited kind ), marriage and parenthood are not that. Shouldn't we talk about the things we know?

lied about birth control and tricked you and got pregnant from you. She lied because she desperately wanted you to marry her before going abroad for your higher studies. You had no plans for marriage or parenting at least for the next 3 yrs in your life and you never did express ever that your girlfriend is your chosen partner in marriage.

Reading a lot of replies to the toilet seat issue, and many women say they don't like sitting on the throne with the seat up in the middle of the night.

Maybe if you looked before you squatted, this wouldn't be an issue. What do you think?

In an article titled: Lawsuit Claims Fired Pregnant Woman Was Told To 'Suck Belly In' :

A plastic surgery office discriminated against a pregnant secretary who was fired after being told to suck in her belly so she wouldn't scare away patients, government lawyers charged in an anti-discrimination lawsuit filed Wednesday.

An employer cannot fire a pregnant employee based on outdated and speculative fears regarding how patients might react to her pregnancy," EEOC Regional Attorney Jacqueline McNair said in a statement.

Will this pave the way for men be asked to suck their bellies in, for fear that they'll scare clients away? Oh my.

I keep hearing how gender discrimination doesn't exist, but then these pesky cases appear-do you think pregnant women should be fired for having big bellies? What's next, pregnant woman will be fired for swollen ankles?

Do women blame men for problems that are self inflicted? Like body image issues. In my experience, women are much more critical of each other's appearances than men are. What say you?

when a man leaves the toilet seat up?
Why can`t they put it down theirself.
Men have to lift it up when they urinate, and they do not get upset about that! I usually do put it back down as a matter of courtesy, but woman shouldn`t harp about it all the time! If women want equal rights, then they should also have equal responsibility!

OK there are practical reasons to not have sex like don't want to worry about pregnantcy or disease don't want to be used by a player and just don't feel ready to go there yet.

But what are Moral reasons for not having sex? Why is having sex (b4 marry) wrong? It seems to me that I will be the same person before or after I have sex so where is the moral problem?

For example: What is good about virginity? Why is "saving" your virginity for marriage good?

Could someone please explain this to me? Thank you :)

Why would men and women choose this as a lifestyle? What's appealing? And once they cross that path, can they go back to a monogamous relationship?

Respectful openness is appreciated.

PS: I don't judge the lifestyle, just want to understand it.

I often feel stereotyped and embarrassed because of some of the stupid things women do to men. I am just curious if men feel the same:
Do you feel you are unfairly stereotyped because of some of the predatory things that some guys do (rape, child molestation, using women, etc.)? Do you think that most
women distrust you or your intentions because of their experiences with bad guys? Does it bother you when other guys do predatory things because it affects how women view all men?

I have observed from watching porn that when the guy chokes, slaps, spits on and generally abuses the woman, she becomes wilder and makes the sex a LOT more pleasurable for the guy.

Even the women seem to enjoy this more, than the gentler, kinder love-making.

From a Feminist Blogger: Either we're too ugly to get a man and so we turn to feminism (and cats), or we're too pretty to be taken seriously. Often it's some combination of both.

A feminist blogger stated that she doesn't know a single feminist blogger who doesn't get rape threats posted in her blog (before they block them) like "I'm 98% sure that she should be raped." If those posting rape threats are blocked, these feminist bloggers are targeted by other blogs that post hundreds of rape messages and threads about raping them, and proceed to post the feminist blogger's pictures, personal information and their movements.

I don't consider threatening people with rape free speech, it's hate speech. What will it take so men and women can discuss feminist issues without being threatened with rape?

The fault divorce could still be in place for the serious situations. Just remove no-fault divorce so it's not so easy and people (in general) would need to marriage more seriously.

U.S. polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs was convicted on Tuesday of being an accomplice to rape for arranging a marriage between an unwilling 14-year-old girl and her 19-year-old first cousin.

Jeffs, the self-described "prophet" of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, spent 15 months on the run and was on the FBI's Most Wanted list before his arrest in August, 2006.

In tearful testimony, the victim said she begged Jeffs not to marry her to her cousin, whom she did not like. Jeffs had told her it was her religious duty to give herself to her husband, and instructed her to repent and submit to his will.

The woman, whose identity was not disclosed during her trial, said she wanted to die after her husband first forced her into sex.

Jeffs could get just 5 years for helping a 14 year old girl get raped. This is US equality?

There has been quite a few polls and research done concerning how many women physically pleasure themselves.
With the results stating that over 60 percent do.
Yet if a man was to ask a woman if they did, the usual answer is no. I have asked women friends these questions and have only ether had one affirmative answer. As far as I'm concerned and I think most men will agree it's no big deal. So why the discrepancy? Why can't a woman admit to doing so, when it is quite natural.

A judge gave a lighter prison term to a rapist who raped prostitutes at gunpoint. As the judge sentenced the rapist, according to the appeals court ruling, the judge said the sex acts were against the victims' will only because they didn't get paid, & prostitutes were "a far cry from the innocent rape victim" that lawmakers envisioned when deciding the severe penalties for the crime.

The judge gave the rapist, nine years on each rape charge & ordered that the sentences be served at the same time -- though prison terms for separate violent crimes are typically added together -- & added a mandatory 10 years for McKee's use of a gun.

A three-judge appeals court panel rejected the judge's "reasoing" & also rejected many of the rapist's claims, inincluding an assertion that his crimes were more like robbery than rape, & that prostitutes are not as traumatized by rape as other victims.

Is it sexist that men don't cry?
Is it difficult to treat people as equal but different because of this?

After being here for a while, I've noticed a few guys saying that men are better than women(and some women who agree with them), so I'd like to find out why men are better than women.
Men have their good points and advantages, but women do as well and I don't think either gender is superior or better than the other.
Thoughts please?

Anna Quindlen:
It's important to remember that feminism is no longer a group of organizations or leaders. It's the expectations that parents have for their daughters, and their sons, too. It's the way we talk about and treat one another. It's who makes the money and who makes the compromises and who makes the dinner. It's a state of mind. It's the way we live now.
