There has been quite a few polls and research done concerning how many women physically pleasure themselves.
With the results stating that over 60 percent do.
Yet if a man was to ask a woman if they did, the usual answer is no. I have asked women friends these questions and have only ether had one affirmative answer. As far as I'm concerned and I think most men will agree it's no big deal. So why the discrepancy? Why can't a woman admit to doing so, when it is quite natural.

Wow! I've certainly hit a nerve here.
My questions stems from discussions amongst all my friends, censuses done in both Women & Men magazines and a curosity about the whole Universe and everything in it. The question is not meant to insult or embarass women. But through open discourse enable me to broaden my understanding of Women. Being severely disabled I'm not in a position to do anything about it. But being an open minded person like to be able to discuss any topic that comes up, whether it is politics, religion, sex or any topic under the Sun. Isn't this site supposed to be what questions are all about? To find out answers to them. After looking at the results so far, perhaps women are not as opened minded about the discusion of what previously used to be taboo subjects, despite the Censuses done, as what is perceived. Thank you to all who answered. It has put one thing into perspective for me. I'll leave this question open in case anyone would care to ellaborate on the answers.

I'd say you're lucky not to have been slapped. Why are you asking women about personal matters that are none of your business? If she was your partner, I could see having that discussion, but otherwise...

There are female friends I've discussed such matters with but the subject usually came up in a wide-ranging discussion that touched on lots of things and it was pretty much taken for granted by both of us that she did, because we'd already shared comfort laughing at certain kinds of humor and such. But if a woman isn't comfortable joking about such things, she's certainly not someone you should be asking such personal questions.

EDIT

Frax, you really are a nasty, hateful piece of work, aren't you? Here's a piece of news for you: porn does not reflect the fantasy lives of all men. Here's another piece of news: you don't know what the fantasy lives of all men consist of. here's a third piece: you also don't know what all women's fantasies are like.

Quite often a Woman's subtext goes like this.........

'Just because I said what I meant,
it doesn't mean that I meant what I said.'

As to your actual question ~ Who is to say that the answers didn't contain lies ~ both in the positive and in the negative?

This particular question (and the one as to whether Women / girls 'pleasure themselves') has been asked many MANY times in various publications and questionarres for at least 20 years now.

As to 'Why can't women admit to doing so' ! Maybe those who do, have, and maybe some of those who don't lied too. So, the answer is, 'you are not going to have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth' ~ and my question would be to you....

A: Why is this seemingly of such importance to you?

B: What would you want the answer to be?

C: Why do you not believe the answers you have?

Sash.

This discrepancy occurs in all self reports. One of the greatest examples is to ask a person a question and then later ask the same question only regarding their best friend. Almost always when you compare what people do themselves with what their best friends do, its a large discrepancy.

There are many reasons the psychological community has found for this overall problem.

Why do women specifically lie about masturbation, because it is still perceived by society that women don't, and that it is bad for women to do such things.

Well to tell you the truth - most of us will admit to something when it is "anonymous" because then we do not shatter the image that we try and create. Lying on your back having a go at yourself - is not considered lady like - more for "loose" women. Until recently - sex and pleasuring was tabboo to most of us - you could not admit to doing it, because then it led to the conclusion that you liked sex and therefore were available. However most of us will admit this detail to one that we are intimate with because - it is fun to watch you as we give ourselves pleasure. The other thing is - do you really want us to admit that sometimes a machine is better than the human equivelant - would you guys be prepared to accept that possibility ?

I think it may be a case of how comfortable women are in telling you these things, no more, no less.

Also, it is a very private matter for both women and men, I guess not all men would admit to it either, though as a man yourself, you know what you do and imagine the same applies to them.

I can assure you my wife does, alone when I'm working (I work nights) and when in my arms also.

We have close lesbian friends who do it to each-other (this came up in a drunk conversation some time ago).

You do it, they do it, we do it.

We all know that.

The discrepancy is the personal side of it, for both woman and men.

The answer, probably, lies in the age of the women with whom you speak.

It would appear that many of the young women on this forum have very strong opinions about female promiscuity and there are many who advocate virginity at the time they are married. (By the way, young men are also very vocal about these things.) I would suggest that the younger the person, the less experienced and more idealistic the view. Speak with older women...ask them the question....I think you will find greater honesty and openess about sexual matters...

properly... as this is been reported in the past, the certainty that individuals approve it does now not imply that they could do it. i think of it particularly is a controversy of non-public selection and selection and regardless of it particularly is, this is nice. i'm latin and that i'm getting married to a black guy and now and returned i ask your self whether our infants are going to stand stressful circumstances having a mixed race and coming from father and mom who do now not even have the comparable first language or background... i actually wish they do now not. . . this is been a gradual develop yet i think of it particularly is an exceptionally own selection and it particularly is gonna sound corny even with the indisputable fact that this is authentic...Love sees no colour. . .

because of the double standard that exists for women and sex, if a man does anything of a sexual nature, it's okay, nobody looks down upon him, when a woman does the same things, she is percieved to be a ****, or whore, until those standards change, some women will continue to feel as though they should be less sexual then men.

Did you ever think that 40% of women is an awfully large number?? And you just continually come in contact with members of that 40%? Why must you assume that the women you talk to are lying to you??

Because there are some things we do that are none of your business. Also, there is a negative stigma attached to having to resort to pleasuring yourself, especially if you’re in a relationship. One would ask, “Why would you have to pleasure yourself when you have Studmuffin there?” The answer to that is never easy, and is usually private and personal.

So I would bet your lady friends say something like “I never need to pleasure myself; I have Studmuffin to do it for me.”
