I ask this because usually when someone voices an opinion that punishing a child by spanking is wrong for any reason, that person is accused of being a childless liberal who just happened to stumble upon a few of the latest parenting books. In short, when someone opposes corporal punishment, people make the assumption that said person doesn't have children (that's been MY observation, anyway).

So, I'm wondering if any parents out there take issue with spankings, and for what reason(s).

Thanks.

Would you let your 14 year old son watch a movie with the rating:
Answer yes or no, explain if you want
-Strong Violence, language, drug content and brief nudity?

-strong language, violence and disturbing content

-perverse drug content and some language

-language and sexuallity

-Violence and brief language

I'm not naming the movies, so just by your best judgement.

Did you consider the meaning(s) of the names you chose for your children? I am just asking b/c I was looking through a baby names book and saw some interesting meanings for typical names.

being abusive towards your HANDICAPPED child ?

I was just watching Dr. Phil and they were talking about kids wtih autism and they interviewed a lady who walked in on a care taker jerking her kid by his arm and she also found out the caretaker was abusing the child as well.

What would you do if you walked in on something like this ?

I would most likely get arrested, whether my child was handicapped or not.

I think it is dispicable that someone would do something like that to a helpless child.

My grandmother had 10 children for one man. She was 13 years old when she got pregnant. At the age of 16 she was married. She had her children in jamaica where they do not offer government aid. by the time she was 30 she had all 10 of her children. She got a divorce after 25 years of marriage. Now her children are adults and have kids of their own. None of my grandmothers children have ended up in prision and none of then have did poorly in school. 6 of them went to college and graduated and the other 4 are working and living very decent lives.

Now that 16 year-old Jamie Lynn is pregnant? I think the book would be great - sort of a "what not to do" when raising daughters.

How can I help keep a kid quiet? I'm babysitting again tomorrow night and the kid shrieks a lot. I was babysitting him last night and he didn't scream but he did the previous time I babysat. He mainly shrieks when I step out of the room for a minute or two (to use the restroom) or even if I'm just there. If I'm sitting next to him he'll start screaming and shrieking. He's 7, he's not trying to tell me anything, he's just screeching for the joy of it. How can I save my ears from the wretched screaming?

Which is worse?:

A. A single, stay at home mother -- who's never had a job in her life, is leeching off the government, but is obviously home with her kids.

B. A married, working, working-class mother -- who doesn't see her kids but for a couple hours a day because of her crazy work schedule, and who's family depends on her income (along with her husband's).

Please state if you believe that being a SAHM is the "only" and/or "right" way that women should go.

Please give a reason for your choice of A or B!

We have a daughter who is 2 and I am almost 12 weeks pregnant. I wanted to stay home with our daughter after she was born but my husband insisted I go back to work so I did. I know we could afford it with me not working but he says it's not fair to him. Our house is always dirty because working full time and being pregnant has taken all of my energy that I have left...I swear this may sound gross but i'm sure our dishes havent been done in weeks....he works swing shift so he even gets days off during the week but doesnt want to help around the house and expects me to do it all. So I told him that if I could stay home I would make sure the house was always clean and there was always dinner on the table every night...but he still refuses?!?!?! What am I susposed to do?? Please help...

I had a divorce from a bad relationship. My three year old girl has not got into saying that she wants to be a baby. It goes from wanting to drink from a bottle, trying to put on old baby clothes and even talking baby talk. I asked her why and eventually it came out that 'mummy and daddy like babies not big girls' - it seems to be that somehow she thinks the divorce and upheaval has something to do with her and the fact she is not a baby anymore!!!! I do not know where she got that and we both try to reassure her that we like 'big girls' etc but she still persists in pretending to be a baby. She only does this some times, not all the time and her language skills are pretty advanced for her age.

Please advise, thanks

My daughter is about to be 13 and last night she confessed to me that she's embarassed that I had her when I was 16 yrs. old & she feels that she prevented me from "being a regular teen". NEVER! I tried to explain to her that getting pregnant with her was the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have NEVER had the thought "I wish I wasn't a mom". I was blessed with 2 parents who were and still are there for me and my daughter. My parents didn't kick me out of the house, and would watch my child when I went out, worked or whatever! In doing that my mother let me be a "regular teen/young adult" and still be a mom. Someone please help me, I don't want my daughter to be embarassed of me and I definitely don't want her to feel ANYTHING is her fault or that she has hindered me in any way. I'm doing very well financially for her, everything I do is to make her happy. She's my world. Please help.

I teach second grade and have a TAG student in my class. His father always comes to observe me when I am teaching Math and none of the other subjects (ie: reading, writing, science, social studies, etc.). I don't think its' his schedule because the Dad told me at the beginning of the year that he runs his own business and would be stopping in to visit.

I'm paranoid that Dad thinks I'm doing a bad job with Math instruction, so that's why he only comes at that time.

I don't know how to ask without sounding rude or insecure.

im not aiming this at all men but why do they do it ive been wrecking my brains to figure out why. children are a gift and i couldnt be parted from them but why do some dads when the relationship turns bad and parents split up the dad does a runner and wont contact his children or even send a damn christmas card most men say the kids will know the truth when they are older but the truth is this. " yes us mothers use the kids agaisnt the dads but if u was told to jump of a cliff would you do it? and the kids will grow up to resent the parent who they feel has abandoned them not look for them and expect a hug they will want to know why? please help me out here and answer the question " why do dads abandon their kids ?"

I had to get a GED because of child abuse problems. I had to move out, and yes I made mistakes, but I got my GED. Since I have gone to a communtiy college and got a degree in history education. I want to teach high school so that I can maked sure kids dont make the mistakes I did. Will the fact that I dont have a highschool diploma myself hinder me in my search for a job in education?
