Dear all
I just found out I am pregnant. I am really happy and I cannot wait for my husband to come back home from work to tell him. Although our financial situation is not bad (he just started a new job last week and I work half time), I know he would have liked to have more money.
All my feelings are mixed-up! Should I tell him as a surprise? or should I talk to him in a more serious way? should I wait till he feels more comfortable with his new job? What would you do?

Thank you for your help

I have been seeing more and more evidence that supports extended breast feeding. I myself nursed my daughter for a full year. However, I've read a bit about it and learned that a child's body is made to ingest and benefit from breast milk for like 3-5 years, and that the worldwide weaning age is acutually much higher than most Americans think is "decent". Since my husband and I want to have more children, and I am a stay at home mom, I have been considering my feeding options for future children. I was thinking about weaning from the breast at a year old like last time, to give myself and baby both a bit more freedom, but continuing to pump my milk for the baby for maybe a year longer so she/he still gets the nutrition and immunities. Has anyone here breast fed for a long time, or done something similar to this? I would LOVE to hear from people who have actually experienced it, rather than just read more studies. Thanks!

My OBGYN and another doctor both say I have severe Diastais and a herniated bellybutton. my abdominal aorta is wide open and can be easily felt with the docs hands. they tell me its dangerous and could be fatal if i accidentally get kicked or hit in the tummy or in a car wreck. it has to be fixed. how do you explain to your insurance company this is not a cosmetic proceedure and only an plastic surgeon can reconstruct the damage. i am not looking for a tummytuck at all. I just want the necessary basics done to fix my ab wall and cover and protect my aorta. i feel this is a necessary proceedure but do not have means to pay for all of it. how can i get my insurance company to understand this is necessary even after they receive a predetermination letter saying that it is necessary. Is there another kind of doctor that can fix my tummy other than a plastic surgeon? if so please let me know. my e mail address is misspookett@yahoo.com thanks hope to hear a reply asap

Affecting one in 100,000 people, Hurler's syndrome is a rare genetic disorder where the enzyme (alpha-L-iduronidase), which normally breaks down the mucopolysaccharides dermatan and heparin sulphate, is missing. These mucopolysaccharides build up in all tissues in the body causing progressive deterioration and eventual death. The disease was first described in 1919 in Germany by Dr. Gertrud Hurler.

Hurler's syndrome babies often develop normally during the first year, but as the storage material (mucopolysaccharides) start to build up, the symptoms begin to appear. Early symptoms include frequent colds and ear infections. Hurler's children will, without therapy, experience profound mental retardation, coarse facial features and excessive hair growth, vision problems (due to clouded cornea), and severe heart problems (as the coronary arteries narrow and the heart valves thicken). Other symptoms may include carpal tunnel syndrome, curvature of the spine, frequent runny nose, hernias, and hearing loss. Most patients die of heart failure between the ages of 5 and 10.

Because Hurler's syndrome is genetic, it is difficult to cure. Current approaches to Hurler's syndrome include genetic counseling for parents who are carriers of the disease, and improvements in early detection of the disease in unborn children (Hurler's can be detected with amniocentesis early in the second trimester). For Hurler's syndrome patients, a variety of treatments have been tried. The goal of treatment is to get the missing enzyme into the body. While the enzyme is now FDA-approved and available, studies have shown this doesn’t move into the brain well enough to prevent the neurologic aspects of the disease.

To introduce alpha-L-iduronidase into the body, both gene therapy and blood, marrow or cord blood transplants are being explored. In gene therapy, researchers use a virus to place the gene that produces alpha-L-iduronindase into the patient’s cells. Transplants are performed to provide cells producing enzyme through the growth of normal, healthy blood cells. These blood cells appear to provide enzyme to other cells of the brain, preserving neurologic function. However, the enzyme does not appear to penetrate into the brain. Following successful transplant, patients do not suffer cardiac deterioration, and the accumulated mucopolysaccharides in the liver, lungs, and marrow slowly disappear. Vision and hearing generally improve post transplant, as well. Though the mental retardation does not progress, the patient’s IQ will typically stabilize. Thus the most successful transplants are those that are performed as soon as possible after diagnosis. Transplants performed after age 2 have disappointment results, because a BMT cannot repair the considerable amount of damage already done.

Because older patients and those with prior lung problems do particularly poorly with transplant, the use of enzyme therapy prior to transplantation may be advantageous. The University of Minnesota has pioneered a study to test the use of enzyme prior to transplant, which is currently enrolling patients.

I just asked this question but only got one answer. So I am trying again. When I was on the pill before I got pregnant I really didn't have any side effects what so ever but know I am on the same pill that I was on but I have been moody and emotional. Is is possible that since I was pregnant, that the pills would have a different effect on me know post pregnancy? I hope this wasn't too confusing. ( I had my baby 5months ago) Thanks for the help.

sensitivity to smell
stress
fatigue

and how do you know whether its all in your head or not?

also,
if your not yet positive that your pregnant, before your period if you normally break out or get cramps or something of the sort, will you still get that before when you WOULD have your period?

My husband thinks his mom knows everything about raising babies. She keeps telling me about crazy things she does to babies like shaving their heads bald so that hair will grow in thick, putting chicken grease in their noses when they are sick, and all sorts of nutty things. Both of us work full time and we cannot really afford expensive childcare. His mom just lost her job and wants us to pay her for watching our baby. My husband couldn't be happier but I am a bit nervous. She keeps calling my baby hers. Throughout my pregnancy she continues to tell me I have had a bad attitude, I don't take care of myself right, and other off the wall things. I don't know how much more I can take it.

As an alternate to abortion, if they have a friend that is willing to take the baby? Maybe kind of like a permanent babysitter? or is this totally illegal? I mean, it's the mom's choice (if she unmarried, parent's choice if a married couple decide to do so?)

Would you pierce your daughter's ears if she was just a baby? It's so cute and she wouldn't remember the pain. Plus I don't know anyone who wouldn't want her ears pierced other than my mom. I wasn't allowed to pierce my ears untill I was 11. All my friends got theirs done when they were much younger and none of them regret it. So what do you think?

My b/f of a year and I broke up about 2 months ago. It was a bitter breakup and we havent talked but just a few times since. We end up fighting when we talk. However, I am 6 months pregnant with his son. I dont know whether to keep him informed with whats going on with the pregnancy and the baby (like what the doctors are saying, how much hes kicking and some of the funny things that i have experienced already). I feel like hes missing out on alot of irreplaceable moments, but at the same time, i wonder if he would even want to know since he has oppurtunity to call or text me anytime to find out. Is he just being stubborn as usual and do you think he would really wanna know, or should i just leave it alone and see if he contacts me eventually. Or since hasnt tried to contact me, does he care about this baby at all? Need a lil advice on this.
btw, for those who want to judge me for being a single soon to be mom, it was my choice. I was married and so was he, we chose not to

My wife and I have spoke after an incedent on the news about a woman aborting her baby because if she gave birth the baby will live but it would kill the mother. My wife says that if she is ever in that position she wants to have the baby and risk dying because she has led a full wonderful life and wants her child to have that chance. Now her family is mad at her for this decision even though she aint pregnant, it was just a conversation. I think its beuatiful that she is willing to sacrafice herself for a child. What do you think?

My midwife told me to start thinking about my birth plan.
With my first son I had a drug free birth. After the birth I was numbed for stiches and then given a shot of Demerol, which made me out of it. I'm trying to decide what kind of pain medication, if I need it, to get after I have birth. Demerol made me alittle too out of it.

I can't get over this lady I served last night. She was with her two daughters, and a friend with two children. When they first were sitting down, the Mom pushed her daughter because she wasn't going to the seat she wanted her to. The daughter was in tears because she landed up against this pole with a sharp corner. The mom just laughed at her friend, and then shoved her to the seat. Then, I came back one time, the same daughter was in tears again- her look on her face was a cry for help. Then, I came back again, and her other daughter was just screaming. The Mom put her hands covering this young girl's mouth really hard saying shut up shut up shut up!!! I wasn't sure if that was enough to report it, but I did. I had to give my name and phone number, so I was wondering if this lady who I reported will know my name or anything like that- I wouldn't think so, but I'm just curious. I think her pushing the one girl just did it, I have a baby, and I could never do anything like that
