I am the same - i was nearly 40 a day but when i found out i was pregnant i didnt want to pick up another cigarette but i just cant help it - i feel guilty when i have one (i am just having one a day) - i have that one cigarette after my evening meal - i dont enjoy it but i crave it

personally i dont think patches are any good whether i am pregnant or not - i need something to do with my hands when i stop smoking so i have taken up knitting - and that helps with the hand thing and also i dont think about a cig at all while im knitting my (now) very weird shaped scarf lol

plz don't use the patches that's to much nicotine in 1 go.
you are doing great, my doctor has told me the fact that i have cut down to a couple a day from 20/30 is great.
its not good for the baby but you are trying and that's what counts when you want to smoke try a lolly pop or some fruit. even iced water.
also try to stop stressing about it this will only make you think of fags more and the more you think about it the more you will want 1 !!!!!
good luck x x x x

I dont think the patches will work youre not suppose to have them when you are pregnant I dont think. Its probably not good for it. I know its hard to quit, but the day I found out I was pregnant I quit smoking, sure I wanted one but I never smoked until after I had her.

the patches give u more nicoten so dont do that im sure if u see your nurse she will understand and help u. i stopped when i found out i was pregnant.then when they were born started again. iand i know its so hard i have been smoking for 7 years and its so easy for people that dont smoke to say well your not going to be a good mother if you cannot even stop smoking. hey tell them not to eat for a dday and ell them thats what its like....good luck to you and hope you have a good pregnancy and birth

right ill tell you straight, cutting down is fantastic, well done. but you really need to stop completely. its rubbish that smokings ok if you eat well. it doesnt just make your baby smallr, it can make your baby premature, have heart problems, asthma, be much more prone to chest infections etc in later life etc. if you want proof of this ill tell you this story. my fiance's friends girlfriend smoked all the way through her pregnancy, her daughter was born early, was only 5lb 13oz, had a hole in her heart, has a growth deficiency, extremely bad asthma and has constantly got a cold. how much more motivation do you need to stop smoking? im not being nasty just telling the truth. good luck with the baby

Dont go for the patches but id reccommend you went off the fags completely especially if they making you sick. A friend of mine was told in the hospital that they would prefer to drink than smoke. It can cause complications in labour aswell as making the baby small.

5 a day is fine. Of course it is better to quit but everything is relative. My husband is in a band. When I was pregnant, my Dr. said that it was worse for the baby for me to go sit in a smoky bar for a few hours than to go outside in the fresh air and have a cig. I did start smoking outside when I was pregnant. That way, I was already used to having to go outside when the baby came, (it is NOT ok to smoke inside with a baby living there.) and while I was pregnant, I was not living in second hand smoke.

im in the same situation, ive been without cigs for a week now, its going well.

What i did was printed out the most shocking pix of smokers lungs and unhealthy babies as possible, and every time i wanted a cig i looked at them, and had a lollipop instead.

It really works, i now feel ill at the thought of lighting up, i'll never smoke again, so try it!!

Good luck x
