I would call and ask your doctor's office. I know some OBGYNs like you to be farther along in your pregnancy before they begin pre-natal care. But your family doctor can confirm the test and begin prenatal care until you can see your OBGYN. Also I know that my insurance company prefers if my family doctor refers me to the OBGYN.

HPTs are notorious for producing "False Positives," which means that it might say you are pregnant when you are not. You should (1) repeat the HPT, and then (2) call your OB/GYN's office and tell them exactly what has taken place. Tell them you have a positive HPT and want an appointment to either (1) confirm the pregnancy or (2) start the prenatal care.
Until you know, however ,that you are NOT pregnant, act as if you are. Avoid teratogens such as alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and altitude changes, stay as clean and far from illnesses (colds, flus, etc) as you can, and behave in a responsible way as if you ARE pregnant. If you are pregnant this is a VERY crucial time for the embryo, and you must protect it from harm during the formative prenatal period.
Good luck. My wife is expecting our first in 2 weeks and i'm very excited.

I would make the appt. with the doctor. I took 3 HPT's and all were positive. But I still wanted the doctor to confirm it so I could put my mind at ease.
I wish you and your little one all the very BEST!!! Children are blessings!

Pick up the phone and make an appt.!! Yes!! The sooner the better, especially since they typically don't even want to get you in until your 8 weeks along unless you've had prior issues.
:) Good luck!

I would only check to see if your insurance co. requires a confirmation before scheduling with the ObGyn. With my first I went to my reg. dr. because my insurance required it. After we switched insurance companies, it wasn't required. Now when I get pregnant, I just call my ob gyn and they schedule an 8 week appt. Also, you don't get false positives, just false negatives. Good Luck.

Generally all they will do to "confirm" at this point is give you another urine test, which will be exactly the same as the one you just took, only more expensive. I would just make your first pre-natal appt.

Due to "false" positives I would make an apt to confirm this. I guess it depends on what your doc would prefer. I am assuming that they have to confirm this with a urine or blood test anyway for their records. I'm not sure if they would just take your word for it. Good luck!

I don't think you need a confirmation appointment, you should just call to make that first check-up appointment, which will be around 8-10 weeks. Congratulations! I want to be next!

HPT are not notorious for making false positives they are notorious for making false negatives. The only way you can make a HPT positive is if you have the HCG hormone in your body and if you have that hormone in your body then you're pregnant. it is more likely if you have a positive than no doubt you are pregnant
