My midwife told me to start thinking about my birth plan.
With my first son I had a drug free birth. After the birth I was numbed for stiches and then given a shot of Demerol, which made me out of it. I'm trying to decide what kind of pain medication, if I need it, to get after I have birth. Demerol made me alittle too out of it.

I had a shot of Demarol because I tore from my ureathra to my anus. I pushed my child out in one push, less than 3 minutes after I was fully dialated and they broke my water.

My midwife didn't have time to massage my perinnium. She broke my water, I screamed, the nurse told me to stop screaming and start pushing and I did. Thats why I tore, because I can really push! I think the nurse underestimated the power of a first time pusher. My midwife was wonderful though, and she stiched me up good.

With my first, I got an epidural during labor, after labor I got a shot of stadol (which worked great). For the pain of being stitched they tried to give me tylenol 3 which I laughed about, because hell, after you've had some stadol what the heck is tylenol 3 gonna do. But they wouldn't give me anything else, so I didn't take anything.
With my second, I tried to do it without and epidural so I took 2 shots of stadol (which didn't do a thing that time) So, I ended up with the epi, didn't need to be stiched, had no pain afterwards. Well, I did have stomach pains that felt like phantom contractions, so I took some darvoset that didn't work worth a crap.
With this one I'm gonna only ask for stadol.

I had pitocin because I can not feel labor pains and I had to be able to feel them in order to know when to push, I also had an epi after I felt the ONLY labor pain which made me almost vomit. I didn't have anything to sew me back up but always had control of my legs and could walk as soon as I was sewn up. Then 3 hours after I gave birth I had my tubes tied and was given Oxicodone for pain {second child}

With my first child 13 yrs ago I didn't have anything it happened so quickly and due to her small size they feared any amount of meds would be detrimental to her

In the start of labor I have a morphine like substance which they gave me a little button for. As things got more painful I got the epidural, which I recommend. When it was over I was numbed for the stitches and given Ibprofen 800's and percocet. It worked pretty well for me, and it didnt mess me up really bad.

I refused the numbing for stitches (2 in one spot one in another). I refused pitocin to make the placenta come. I refused all other medication.

I took some advil the day after to try to bring down some swelling. Didn't help.

Ummm glycerin suppositories a week or so later for constipation. Use the infant dose, holy cow!

That's it!

I hope you are using a different midwife this time.

If they stretch your perineum, well. And guide you through your pushing there is no cause to tear. !!!!
I'm sad that after you managed a pain free delivery you had the experience with stitches and the Demerol.
Trauma from tearing can cause you to fear pushing your second baby out! Its important that you trust your midwife, and that you heal your emotions around your first birth.
READ, EDUCATE yourself and be prepared!!! Again, with proper care tearing is minimal if you do at all.

I delivered 2 babies who both weighted over 9 lbs. I did tear, but only slightly with my first and not at all with my second. I had NO pain meds at either birth. The risks were not worth the relief.

My wife had an epidural and had demoral for one child and percocet for both...she loved them and when she kicked off those..you need to make sure that you don't try to be smart and take over the counter drugs...get them from the anasthesiologist..he knows that you're probably going to nurse and can give you what you need that will have the least amt of affect on your newborn and the milk you produce.

I had one dose of stadol during labor. I had an epidural during labor, which had to be upped because it wasn't working. I had numbing shots for an episitomy, but ended up ripping. After childbirth, all I had was an ice pack, which I'm kinda proud of myself for considering I had so many stitches the doctor lost count.(No joke!)

I'm not sure why you needed Demerol after birth? Were you in a lot of pain? I was able to get by with only ibuprofen as needed after I had my daughter (drug free).
