My mother in law made a comment that she thought you were only supposed to have a baby shower for your first pregnancy. Does anyone know the etiquette of this?

I feel in our society today respect is a top issue. There seems to be too many children who do not get respect and far more who do not give respect. I’m not asking because I need to earn respect I’m just asking this from a parents stand point of what you are doing with your children to teach them or if you have concern at all.

-Do you believe in the saying “To earn respect you must give it first?”

-At what age do you believe your children should get respect?

-Do you think respect is something that takes time or it should be automatically given?

-In what ways do you teach you children respect?

-Do you believe etiquette in our society is even around anymore and do you feel etiquette has anything to do with respect?

-Any other feelings on the issue?

Thank you for all the responses!

I had my daughter in '99 while I was working as a cashier at Walmart. They refused to obey the Dr's orders so I was forced to stand on my feet for hours w/o a break & to lift items over 20 lbs (up to 50 in most cases). When I went into labor - I wasn't even aware of it. In fact, I had just gone in for my scheduled ckup and found out that I was already 6 cm dialated. He sent me to the hospital, broke my water & w/o pain meds I had her w/in 2 1/2 hrs.

Fast forward to now, it's been 7 yrs and I'm pregnant w/my 2nd child & I now have an office position. My mother also likes to remind me that she was told (when she had my sis & I) that if its been more than 4 yrs, it's like having your first child all over again. The only thing that hasn't changed is that I continue to have back problems (herniated disk).

What should I expect this time? I always heard that the 2nd one's faster and haven't found anything to backup what my mom has said.

without special degrees. I am eager to find a job for which I have a passion for, being I do care for mothers and love to be with them at their births for support, as well as assisting with their house chores to give them relief during pregnancy. Can someone help me?

I know this is a silly quesiton and I try to refrain from doing so...but I had to ask. People you don't know seem to give honest answers where as people who know you try not to hurt your feelings. And I put it in "Pregnancy and Parenting" because this is where I normally answer questions. Thanks for your responce!

I thought my nipples were normal until I tried to breastfeed my baby. Even my doctor didn't think there'd be a problem. My baby couldn't latch on, however, and she hated the nipple shields. Is there any way I can make my nipples normal before I have another baby? I don't want to miss out on breastfeeding just because of this.

I know most of you think of Logan as a boy name, I like it better for a girl. I also like Rilee for a girl as well.

I have seen so many parents, and grandparents, do this and it really bothers me. I feel like it's really putting a child in danger. I know that the parent is right there with the child and the pedestrians have the right of way, but why risk it? The child should be picked up and carried in these dangerous areas. People are crazy in cars today. I've seen this happen at Target, McDonald's, the mall... those are not safe parking lots. I've almost gotten run over in parking lots and I'm a full grown adult.

I was just wondering why people have such an issue with girls 15+ having children? I have a lot of young mothers as friends and they don't live with their parents or live off the government. I also noticed that young pregnancies are a lot more common and accepted in the south-western states...any opinions on that? I was just very curious because really if it doesn’t affect you why do people care? Why do young mothers get looks as if they have done something incredibly wrong? Why are they taken pity on even if they did want the pregnancy? Why are they considered sluts? And last but not least...why are they automatically considered bad parents?
Thanks for your insight!

Has anyone asked their ob doctor if they know of any women that are pregnant and are planning to give up their baby for adoption? I read that doctors can coordinate this type of thing...of course with legal & other fees involved...but anyone hear of this or do this?
