I thought my nipples were normal until I tried to breastfeed my baby. Even my doctor didn't think there'd be a problem. My baby couldn't latch on, however, and she hated the nipple shields. Is there any way I can make my nipples normal before I have another baby? I don't want to miss out on breastfeeding just because of this.

Use breast shells towards the end of your pregnancy and in between feedings. (These are different from nipple shields.) Pump for just a few mins prior to feeding to draw out the nipple.

I had inverted nipples, what helped me was using a breast pump when the baby wasn't nursing. I've heard that sheilds cause more problems than they solve. If you have problems with the baby latching on the problem may not be your nipple shape... you might want to call La Leche League.

Using Nipple Pumps / Breast pumps are also a good idea. Just dont over do it.

These act almost similar to sucking on the nipples by a baby, the only difference being that you can actually increase or decrease the suction capacity.

There is a type of sheild that you wear when you are not breastfeeding that changes the shape of the nipple. Also you can use your (clean) fingers to pull your nipple out so that your child can latch on. Once the milk starts flowing it should be OK.

most mothers with inverted nipples can still nurse. Call a breastfeeding clinic. Although you have them you should still be able to nurse as normal, the only thing is is once your baby gets used to nursing your nipples will turn outward. There is nothing you can do on your own that i have heard of. just takes practice with you and a baby.

Ahhh if I may be so bold to suggest this. maybe your husband/bf/significant other might help you by excersising your nipples for you. If you get my drift.

My wife had the same problem until she asked me to help her out. So I did and our second baby had no trouble.
