I'm not sick or anything, but my husband and I were sitting here wondering what would happen if I DID get sick. Could a virus be passed to my baby through my breastmilk? Would I have to supplement with formula whilst I'm contagious? Just wondering.

Exactly why does it cost money to adopt a child? I understand the background checks, and making sure the parents are the right ones for the child, but why is it so expensive? If you adopted a baby, you'd be paying, not only the money to adopt, but also the money to take care of that baby for 18 years. Or when you adopt, does the state or government send you a check to aid in the care of that child on a monthly basis? Kind of like with foster care? Also, what are the odds of a couple of 24 year olds being able to adopt a child? Still young, educated, recent college grad, and able to support both? I saw the question about adopting, and it made me curious. I've often thought about adopting children when my guy and I are ready for kiddos, as I have a lot of fear and paranoia about the birthing process. lol Which i'm sure i'll get over one day, but anyway, for future references sake...

My husband and I are wanting to adopt. But the cost is so high. The average is $10,000 - $30,000. Know any agencies that can help? We're searching for an agency that can help us either finance a legal adoption or one that adopts out children without the thousands of dollars others are asking for.

Reading some of the answers to my questions, I cant help but think some people are just bitter and nasty! I ask if there is any way to find out about listed sex offenders in your area, and get told i'm one! Im a concerned mother, whats the matter with you! I also get some idiot saying 'blah blah blah they aint gonna touch your kids', can I have that in writing please since youre so sure?! There were others on there too. Also my question about makeshit nappies as I ran out ONCE (happens to the best of us!) and some dic k tells me i'm a crap mother and social services would have something to say about it! obviously a man who doesnt allow people to make any sort of mistakes - its your kids I feel sorry for not mine!
Its like my mum always said, if youve nothing nice to say, then dont say anything at all!

My husband has had custody of his 7 year old daughter since she was 9 months.I started playing the "mom"role when she was 20 months.Through years of cancellations, excuses,no support to how I was raising her from her "mother",and now that shes 7 and can do alot for herself, and her mother is dating a moneybag older man shes taking her visit as scheduled, lets her watch rated "R" movies, like when she was 5 watched "chucky" and "scream1",couple weeks ago came home and said she watched scary movie 4 which I have never seen but her dad and I rented it to see what it was,and the first thing it says is sexual exploitation and suggestion throughout movie!! the mother says Ill let her do what I want when I have her! she frequently slipped up and said some curse words last week but does no good talking to the mother! am I overreacting or does this enrage other mothers?

I was wondering when a good age is to starting a family?? I am 19 turning 20 in 3 months, I feel that starting a family at a young age would be a good thing considering you can grow up with your children and not be too old and unable to do such things with them like sledding, playing outside with them, just being able to have fun and grow up with them. Also How do you know if you are ready or not to have kids??? Very curious if I am too young or not??

Lol, I have no kids (yet), but I love this section! You all have a much more mature outlook on situations!!! I have another question. My friend told me about her bf's sister...let's call her Jane, who has two kids. At 26, Jane's still a very young mother. My friend is working on her teaching degree,&she's observing Jane's children for a project. The problem? Jane's children are enrolled in an after school program that she sent them to. My friend claims she does this so that she doesn't have to deal with them& can be with friends. The children are at school until 5p.m., then come home, have dinner,&after that, begin getting ready to be in bed by 7. This bothers my friend because she hardly has any time to do observing. However, my question is, do you think spending so little time with her during the week could be harmful to the children? Or is this time crunch a common situation among parents with school aged children? The children are 9 and 10 years old.
