My husband and I are wanting to adopt. But the cost is so high. The average is $10,000 - $30,000. Know any agencies that can help? We're searching for an agency that can help us either finance a legal adoption or one that adopts out children without the thousands of dollars others are asking for.

Umm .... "Robsnor," you ARE compensated when you adopt a child.

Please look into the $10,000 federal tax credit that you get after your adoption is completed.

The cost of adoption is about the same as the cost for pregnancy, prenatal, labor, delivery, and postnatal care.

The difference? Health insurance covers the cost for some pregnant women, and the federal tax credit covers the cost for all adoptive families.

Have fun building your family.

Going thru the state and adopting kids in the system is a lot cheaper than going thru agencies. But it's really hard to get a baby this way most are older, but there are babies available, you just have to wait longer. I think all agencies come with big price tags. I have seen ads n papers by couples wanting to adopt, that way you do it yourself and don't have to go thru an agency. But you would have to pay all attys. fees and at least cover the medical expenses of the pregnant woman if she doesn't have insurance.

We're looking at adopting kids out of the foster care system. You probably won't get a baby this way, but most, if not all, of your fees with either be covered or reimbursed.

I cannot answer your question but would like to say the following. I think it is a disgrace that someone who is prepaired to give a child a home should pay for that. It should be the opposite. Anyone adopting a child should be compensated.

Good luck.

Did you try Catholic Charities? I'm not sure what the going rate is for adopting babies, but I do know people that went through this organization. Good luck. I hope you get your baby soon!
