Yes it is very possible. Your body is changing as soon as you have the baby! So it can start right away! I am glad she is getting help so quickly!

Opinion differs over whether there is any difference between "postnatal depression" and any other kind of depression. The symptoms are pretty much the same either way. The amount of sleep you feel you require is a cause for concern, as sleeping too much is a classic sign of depression. Changes in appetite, lack of energy and crying a lot are also warning signals. How long have you felt like this? If it's been longer than two weeks, you may be clinically depressed and should talk to your GP or Health Visitor. If find you are unable to make yourself care for your baby, or if you ever start having thoughts about harming yourself, then you must seek help urgently.

Depression can set in as soon as you have the baby. I think part of the depression is that when you a pregnant all the attention goes to the pregnant woman and after the baby is borned it goes towards the baby. People don't understand that the mother is now going through hormonal changes and this can affect her psychic. It is not that the mother doesn't love her baby, it is that she overwhelmed with the responsibility she has now, her lack of sleep, having to prepare everything for baby & hubby if she has one. People must understand that ladies that give birth need to be attended also. Give them the help they need to come out of this depression.

As soon as you have the baby. I gave birth to my daughter and as soon as i got home, I would cry at everything. I just cried the whole time for like 2 weeks. Then it went away.
It depends where you live and what history your friend has with depression. Usually if you had a history with depression the doctor will write you out a prescription for antidepressants after you have the baby.
Thankfully I didint need pills, or therapy. I think mine was hormone related.

Yes it is. When I had my baby..I had the blues the next day and it lasted several months. A woman's body goes crazy after having a baby and all those hormones don't help the matter. It is a tough thing but I am glad she is getting help. Just be supportive..this is something that she has to go through to feel better.

I had it come on by the next day. Luckily, it went away on it's own.
