Newborn & Baby - December 2007

[Selected]: All categories Pregnancy & Parenting Newborn & Baby

I'm a first time mom of a 9 month old. She seems to want us to play with her nonstop from the time she wakes up until the time she goes to bed. She has the ability to play by herself but she *wants* us to play with her...constantly.

It's to the point where my husband has to wear her in a backpack carrier while he cooks breakfast on the weekends. I can't even set her down to walk into another room w/o her fussing.
I've seen other children around her age and they don't seem to be as needy. Though, I could be wrong.

I love playing with her but at this point I'm feeling very worn out. I can't relax and I can't get anything done.

1. Is this normal?
2. Is this a phase?
3. Is it possible that I've caused her to become this high maintenance?
4. What can I do about it?

Hi. I admit that I was uninformed mother, but have recently read up on vaccinations and no longer want my child to get them. His 6 month shots are coming up and I have gotten all of his shots before. Should I just discontinue now or get this last set of shots? Also, I will have to get him vaccinated before he starts school (Georgia law since it isn't against my religion) so, when do I do that? Just right before he starts? I am still learning about this, but would like to hear from mothers who are attempting this or have been through this. Thanks!

My little one has tried a few jarred foods, but I try to make own. Her favorites are peas and banana's... the 2 thickest stage 1's I have found. She like the thicker consistancy. If I dont make my own all the time, are stage 2's thicker or just a larger portion? Any suggestions on how to get them a little thicker? Maybe add a little cereal? Thanks!

He will grab at his bottle now and hold it, but he won't hold onto it long when eating. He just can't seem to keep it held up to his mouth. What can I do to encourage him to hold it up? Or maybe the 8ounce bottle is too heavy?

he has been growing consistantly on the 50% percentile but this time he was on the 10th% percentile and the doctor mentioned that his growth had slowed down some. he was 7lbs 12oz and 19 inches at birth and is now 15lbs 6oz and 25inches. He barely gained a pound between his 4month checkup and this checkup. Hes still within the normal range but im concerned that his growth had slowed that much so quickly. The doctor didnt seem concerned about it at all.

Has this happened to you? Or am i making a mountain out of a molehill? Thanks!

I am scared to ask this after seeing others get yelled at but....

my daughter is 3 months old. she is on nutramigen (unable to breast feed and had severe colic in her early weeks) and here for the past week has been eating every 2 hours (instead of every 3-4) 5-6oz nutramigen. I gave her 2 teaspoons rice cereal mixed w/ 4 oz formula saturday night, she drank it and slept for 7 hours... Last night (sunday) she had a bottle @ 6 pm (5 1/2 oz) and was screaming a little before 8. I gave her the same amount of cereal as the night before and she fell asleep as soon as the bottle was done. I really think this is making her feel full and content. I called the Dr. today to ask but I really think that she is just hungry! She is 16lbs and already sitting w/ no head support, little body support....I am NOT doing this for my own convienience of having her sleep...it literally has made her seem like she is not starving and she is happy...

what should i do NOW to prepare myself, my house, my life, my pets, etc for her arrival?

i know i need to get the nursery done, find a pediatrician, find a lactation consulatant, get a few essentials (car seat, bassinet, diapers & wipes)... but what else???

i posted the other day about my daughter having her first cold... while we are dealing with it the best we can i have come accross something new. I had to suction her nose out yesterday just because it was too much for her, she was having a hard time breathing and drinkin a bottle... when i did it, i notice a small amount of blood in with it.... that was it for yesterday... now this morning i just did it again for her, and again more blood.... is this normal, or should i be concerned.... other than her nose, her cold is getting better, her eyes are not running anymore, no cough, nothing.

A mother communicates with her months old baby in this way:
drink nicely, girl, you are a little lady / No, you can't do that / Behave yourself; it's a shame / Time for bed/bath / I don't want to hear that again / You have done a good job....
It amazes me how things have changed as compared to our time when babies were brought up in another way. Does it sound logic there isn't any baby talk for a baby now ?

I know there are some that will say i should be spending every minute of every day entertaining him but i just can't do that as i have to do housework and cooking for my husband as well as being a mum.

How long do you think is the right amount of time to be playing with him. I think i spend enough time with him, he is contented and happy, but i feel bad even if i have to nip to the toilet because he cries when i leave the room. Does anyone else feel like this or do you let your babies have time on their own?

My daughter is 3 months old. Since about 8 weeks she has gone to sleep @ night VERY well, does not fight it or anything. She only gets upset if I try to keep her up later because she is ready to go to sleep at 8-9 pm. She will then generally sleep till about 2:30 am when she wakes and drinks about 6 ounces. We burp, and she falls back to sleep in about 10 minutes (sometimes quicker) THE PROBLEM IS, like clockwork she wakes anywhere from 4-5am and wants to get up. If I don't get her up within 5 minutes she cries. I have tried changing her, feeding her, etc., but she just want to be up and play. I have caved and let her in our bed till I get up for work @ 6 and she will snooze there, but I don't want to get her in that habit. This is an everynight thing. I am tired of starting our day at 4, and she crashes by 9am. Anyone have a similiar situation? What did you do?
