He will grab at his bottle now and hold it, but he won't hold onto it long when eating. He just can't seem to keep it held up to his mouth. What can I do to encourage him to hold it up? Or maybe the 8ounce bottle is too heavy?

To heavy at this point. You really need to hold him close to you and hold his bottle for him at 6 months. This is a chance to really bond with your baby. He will start to hold it on his own around 10-12 months :)

I have a 1 year old at home and they just do things on their own time like holding a bottle on thier own. My son at 6 months would lay on his back and try to fig it out. You can try that if you wanted.

Try using a smaller bottle i.e. a 4oz one maybe try a small
towel rolled up that will assist him with holding his arms up (thereby developing the strength) Also keep in mind that each child is different and will hold it in their own time Good Luck

My little guy did no longer till he replaced into 7.5 months previous. Then I had to adjust to a 5oz bottle and then as quickly as he have been given somewhat reliable at retaining the 5oz bottles I switched back to the 8 oz..ones.

I asked the same question when my son was 8mo. He's now almost 11mo & only holds his bottle when he feels like it!! He has no problem grabbing his sippy cup and tilting his head back, but he knows that I'll hold him bottle for him, so he doesn't.

Try the smaller bottle. But he will be able to do this when he's ready. They all grow at different rates, and accomplish different tasks at different ages. If he's happy and healthy, don't sweat this.

Are you too busy to feed your own child?

He is only six months old. You should still be breast feeding at this point not trying to make him feed himself.

If raising a child is that much of a bother for you why not find an adoptive family. Hope you've found reliable birth control. Obviously, another child would really be too much for you.

Maybe you should hold it for him instead of setting him in front of a baby einstein movie. It's the best time too bond.:)
