I'm a first time mom of a 9 month old. She seems to want us to play with her nonstop from the time she wakes up until the time she goes to bed. She has the ability to play by herself but she *wants* us to play with her...constantly.

It's to the point where my husband has to wear her in a backpack carrier while he cooks breakfast on the weekends. I can't even set her down to walk into another room w/o her fussing.
I've seen other children around her age and they don't seem to be as needy. Though, I could be wrong.

I love playing with her but at this point I'm feeling very worn out. I can't relax and I can't get anything done.

1. Is this normal?
2. Is this a phase?
3. Is it possible that I've caused her to become this high maintenance?
4. What can I do about it?

Nonstop seems about right! However, there is nothing wrong with letting her fuss a bit. You don't want a spoiled brat!

You could also wear the back pack or use a sling.

Don't be afraid to read a book (or two or three) on parenting a child. Now is the time to educate yourself.

Babies are all different. Some will play happily by themselves, and other need to be held constantly. Your baby's needs are normal for her. You might try carrying her in a sling when trying to get things done.

It's normal. but nit does no harm if the have to squeak a bit while you go to the loo or whatever. If you accidentally-on-purpose leave things out of reach some of the time it'l give her the incentive to roll and crawl to get them for herself. The more mobile she becomes, the more interested she will be in doing things on her own - but you will need eyes in the back of your head.

you'll know you've "arrived" as a parent when you can go for a wee with two babies and the cat all fighting to sit in your knee while you're on the throne hehehehe

My little boy was just like that also. He just liked being with mom and dad. Dont stress to much about it, it is a phase and soon we will be wishing they would stop wiggling out of your arms and getting into EVERYTHING. If you are concerned look into online articles or books that might have suggestions on getting your baby more independant. But dont worry it is nothing that you did that made your baby needy- it will pass. My 10 month old is crawling and walking and exploring and wont let me hold him back most of the time. and he used to always have to be held to be happy.
