I'm wondering what the big differences are between the two. I've heard that your milk is best for the baby but then there are formulas now that are close to matching that. Is any way better than the other? This will be my first baby so I really don't have experience in this field. Just wondering what other people have chosen to do.

I breastfeed my son, and I've always heard how a [new] baby knows who their mother is and how they recognize their mothers milk [and could supposedly pick it out of a crowd].
My question is:
For the babies who are formula fed - do they have the same connections with their mothers? Can they still pick their mother out of the crowd?
[my son is 3 months and I plan on breastfeeding him until he's 9-12 months]
I just don't want to lose any connection when I stop breastfeeding. When he is no longer breast fed - will he still be able to pick me out of the crowed?

[and for the babies who have NEVER been breastfed - can they pick their mothers out of the crowed?]

It's my first baby .. thanks :]

Hey all....
Today i was at the gas station with my mom & my five week old duaghter Emm. My mom gave me the money & asked me to go pay for the gas so i got Emma ( she was in her car seat i didn't want to leave her alone in the car even though my mom was only like 5 feet away) & i was standing in the line when i saw the parents of a baby leave her alone in the car to go buy a soda. So i went over near the car & sat on a bench with Emma to keep an eye on the baby. The parents came back & asked me what i was doing & i told them that if i EVER saw them doing that again i would call the cops & cps. They got mad at me, & told me i didn't know anything ( i am a young mother). since i'm a teen & that it was perfectly safe to leave there baby alone in the car for a couple of minuter ( there baby was young too only a couple of weeks old).
How can some parents be so stupid? Has anybody else seen somthing like this?

I was thinking of feeding him this amount for his last feeding of the night so may be he will sleep longer... He usually eats about 4 oz. per feeding... Any thoughts?

Often, my 2 week old will fall asleep during her bottle, which is GREAT! However, I will try to burp her, and sometimes this will go on for upward of 10 minutes (constant patting and rubbing on her back in different positions) and it just seems to put her in a deeper sleep sometimes, and no burp. Is it necessary for a formula fed baby to burp at every feeding??

My husband-to-be (8 days!) and I have always talked about having kids right after the wedding. He is in his late 30s and we don't want to wait too long. However, we both got great jobs in Manhattan about 2 years ago and moved here to better our careers. I didn't expect things to advance so rapidly and I am now the breadwinner and have awesome income potential. I never thought I would make so much money in my life. It is really wonderful, however there is always a downside. My schedule is crazy! I have been to 7 cities in the past 4 weeks and can't remember a night that I have been able to sleep more than 5 hours. It is a rough lifestyle....the travel is really exhausting and I am constantly pulling all-nighters.

I am starting to question if I would be able to handle a this job and a new baby. I don't see how it is possible. I always hear from people not to put your life on hold for job, but how to you make that balance? Any working Moms out there with suggestions? Thoughts? Advice?

My 6 month old fell asleep around 6 pm (very early for bed and not his usual nap time). He is still sleeping at 8:45 and has slept through his usual dinner time. Should I wake him to feed him or let him sleep? And if I let him continue to sleep and then he wakes sometime in the night hungry, isn't that messing up his regular sleep schedule? What would you do?

So I have had acne since the middle of my pregnancy, and I gave birth 10 weeks ago. It just keeps getting worse and I actually have some cysts that just keep coming back. Anyway, the dermatologist gave me a prescription for some gel that I just rub on to my skin. I haven't gotten the prescription filled yet because I am getting mixed answers as to whether it is safe or not to use while breastfeeding. It is called Cleocin Gel..and the generic is Clindamycin gel. Has anyone else ever used this or had different answers as to whether it is safe to use. The dermatologist and the pediatrician both say it is alright but the pharmacist and the pharmacy web site say that it is not safe to use and it actually says do not use while breastfeeding. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this gel. Thanks

About a month ago, my 8 month old had tubes put in and his adenoids removed. Since then, there has been a constant flow of fluid from both ears. Is this normal? Should I be worried? Doesn't seem to bother him. We see the pediatrician on Tuesday for a regular check up.

Im a single parent, so I don't have alot of time between work, and taking care of my son.. Any suggestions on any diets / quick workouts I can do to lose weight?

My son's almost 5 weeks old, and he's at the stage where he wants to hold something. He grabs his clothes and swing them around or take his pacifier out of his mouth and shake it like a rattle. He'll also grab his blankets, but is in the habit of pulling it over his head, and tries to hold on to his bottles.

He's very small though (just over 6 lbs) and none of the 'standard' rattles and toys for babies will fit in his hand. Any ideas what I can give him to play with? I won't mind if he keeps hanging on to his clothes, if that's the only option, but I'd like to start giving him something more interesting to play with soon.

I have this pet peeve, and would like other's opinions on it. I get so annoyed when people say that having a dog is like having a baby. For example, someone on my myspace was telling me how cute my baby was, and then said that they have a new dog, and it's like she has a baby too. What do I say to that? There is NO comparison.
I'm surprised at my reaction, because I am a really easy-going person. I guess it's because my daughter is getting two teeth in at the exact same time, and is extremely grumpy. She is also learning how to walk, so there is this underlining fear of a serious fall. I think it takes a special kind of person to be a (good) mother, so it almost feels like an insult when someone says that having a puppy is the same thing as a child.
I guess I just need a nap..LOL

I have a 10 week old and this morning I felt a lump on the right side near his neck on the back of his head. You can not see it. You can just feel it. When you touch it , it kind of moves around..... Anyone ever seen this and it was serious or wasn't serious??

I am calling the doctor as soon as they open. :-(
