I carry my little girl in to the corner store or to go to the ATM at the bank all the time. No matter how of an inconvenience it may be to lug her in there for 2 min.
I always make sure I have my keys in my hand when I get out of the car to get her or when I put her in the passenger side then walk around to the dirvers side. What if something stupid happens and the car doors lock while she is inside! Especially in the hot summers and cold winters we have here! You never know what might happen!
I read about a women who left their child in their car to pick up their other kids from school and I can't remember how long she was but when she came back their child had died from the heat! It's so sad that people can be that neglectful!
Good for you for watching the little one, I would have done the same thing!

Thankfully I have never seen that happen, I don't even like to stand next to the car at the gas station while my baby is in the car. I think people think because the baby can't move or go anywhere that nothing will happen to them *sigh*. You should have told them that you don't need to be older to notice stupidity! Did they leave the car running? Was it unlocked? I think their (stupid) logic is that the kid won't hurt themselves but that doesn't mean someone else won't! I mean someone could have kidnapped the kid and sadly there's a lot of people out there who want babies so bad they don't care how they get them. I hope you live in a small town and can keep an eye out for this little one!

I live in a small town and I'm with you. All it takes is some young punk going to steal your car and there goes your baby! The only time I ever leave my child in the car is if my boyfriend is with her or we are at my dads gas station and he's with her at the pumps. Congrats on being a good mom! I know even my own boyfriend thought it was ok to leave the baby in the car while he paid for gas. He's never been able to cause shes with me all the time but I had to talk to him about it. He thought "what are the chances something would happen" and I told him even if its 1 in one million we weren't going to take that chance with our baby! I know its a pain sometimes to take kids in and out of car seats but there are children! Thats the least we can do!

A lot. Once I was at a gas station ( at least it was a small town) getting gas and someone went in to get something and left their child, about 2 years old or maybe less in their carseat with the truck running. I reached in and turned off the engine.
I actually thought about taking the keys out, too.
I have seen people leave their kid in the car at the post office too. I usually stay nearby just to see what is going to happen.
I never left my car running when my kids were in it and I still don't. Never left them in it either.
That is a form of child neglect.

GOOD JOB!!!! What you did was right. And unfortunately people do stupid things like that to their kids all the time. I was just looking on the news and a 2 year old was strangled in her car seat HOW HORRIBLE. I myself was a young teen mother and I too see some parents do things I couldn't even imagine.

It is against the law to leave a baby or young child under 8 in a car by themselves. You did the right thing. Some parents are just morons. Good for you.

It amazes me how some folks take such risks these days. I don't leave my daughter in the car alone for anything. It only takes seconds for someone to steal them.
Back in the seventies when it was perfectly normal to leave your kids in the car while you ran into the store. My mother had done so with my baby brother. She ran in to pick up a gallon of milk. No sooner had she gotten to the back of the store, reached in and grabbed a gallon; she heard a huge crash outside and a customer at the counter, Screamed OMG they hit a car in the parking lot!! My mother said her heart just sank, she dropped the gallon on the floor, it went every where and ran outside. Luckily, it wasn't her car with my baby brother inside. But she never ever left any of us in the car again. You just never know...and that his a huge gamble with such a little life.

You're right, it IS stupid, and if I have my facts straight it's illegal in many places, too. I've never really noticed people around me do it but I know it would upset me. For some reason a lot of folks think that nothing bad will ever happen to them and don't stop to consider that someone could take their child or that something terrible could occur. It's irresponsible and sad as well. Good for you for at least pointing it out to them. You may be a young mom but you're a smart mom.

earlier this year, in a few towns over from mine, a woman left her young infant in her car while she went in to pay for gas. when the mother came back out her baby was gone and she saw a man running across the street with her baby. fortunately she ran after him and caught him. but i agree, some parents can be very stupid. i am glad that, even though you are a teen, you have some sense!

yes unfortunatly there are a lot of ignorant parents out there.
i have actually called the cops on people like that, it is illegal to leave you baby in the car even for a little bit if you are not around.
Good for you, you may be a younger mother to them but you are a better parent!
