Newborn & Baby - February 2007

I'm at my wits end.

My baby (Arthur) is only 10 weeks but I've started having to express some milk and leave a bottle for him as I've got to start doing a little work at a shop on our street to bring in some much needed cash (I only do two hours, three days a week). I leave a bottle with my other half to warm up and give him if he gets hungry when I'm out.

Trouble is he won't take the bottle! I've got Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottles with a Newborn sized teat, but he doesn't seem to know what to do with a bottle teat and just gags and tries to spit it out.

I had to come home and feed him half way through my 2 hours work as OH rang me to say Arthur was screaming the house down and refusing the bottle. The owner of the shop says she's worried this is going to continue and I feel really awkward. I don't know what to do, any advice?!?!?

He also refuses to take a dummy (pacifier)!

My daughter is 2 years old and I'm to move her over to a toddler bed because we're expecting another baby which will be using the crib. I know that newborn should have a firm mattress which is what my daughter has now but lately she doesn't seem to be comfortable. The only time she's comfortable is when she's in our bed which is really soft. Do they sell mattresses for a toddler bed that are soft and comfortable for her? Please let me know.

We are going to buy a davinci emily convertible crib. My husband doesn't like white and I don't like black. We both don't like natural. So it is between oak, coffee, and amber. Here is a link so you can see if you want. I was just curiouse what color you think would go good! I got sugar plum bedding too!

Obviously we all know that she wasn't caring for the baby. Does any one know where she's been and who has been taking care of her? If you have a web source, please include it.

I just had a baby and he is still in the NICU so I am always going up there. When he comes home I was thinking about walking around the mall. How did you lose your baby weight?

This Spring, we are flying to South Africa so that our daughter can meet her grandparents. She'll be 11 months old, and I am dreading the flight.

With connections, the trip will take about 20 hours. Does anyone have any advice for keeping her calm and happy? Also, I don't think we can afford to pay for a separate seat for her, so she'll be on our laps for the whole journey. Does anyone have any experience with loooong airplane trips and restless babies?

I know I should trust my own judgement but I'm afraid that I can't be objective because this deals with my son's health.
First, my 1 yr old has had diahrrea for 5 days. On the first day I took him to the doctor and she said that we just needed to wait it out but that if he wasn't better after 48 hours to call her. He is still sick, he can't eat and he's been taking Pedialyte but when I called the doctor said to bring him in ...on Monday.
This seems too long for my baby to have to endure this but he isn't running a fever and he's not listless. I suppose that if there's nothing that can be done medically then it is just a waiting game.
Is the doctor's advice to wait another 3 days right or am I just frenzied because it's my child?

My other concern is that when we have apointments with the pediatrician we end up waiting 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The doctor is attentive but I feel this is way too long. We went in at 2:30 the other day and weren't seen until 5! Time to change doctors?

I wasn't sure if I should make the bottles ahead of time and keep them cold or not? I was just going to put the formula in one of those plastic dispensers and bring the empty bottles so I wouldn't have to worry about keeping them cold, but can I do that? What's the best way to go? None of the security guidelines say anything about bringing just the powdered formula on board?

i know this may be a really werd question...but this is all new to me. I was just curious... when you premake a bottle with concentrated formula...you know the one you put half formula half water...well when you premake them...do you add the water all ready or do you have to add the water when you are ready to use it...or does it matter??

im soo confused LOL.

My daughter is 2 months old and has the flu virus. The doctor said that I should use saline drops and suction out her nose and use a cool mist humidifier. I have done all this but she is so miserable and she has a cough. I bought Little Remedies brand Little noses but the doctor doesn't have the chart for the dosage for a 10 pound baby. Has anyone used this with thier newborn and what dose did you use?

My 9 month old baby is getting darker day by day. I am not worried about complexion but my in-laws are. I dont want my baby to grow up hearing their comments on her dark skin. I tried using olive oil, but it's not working. Will Coconut oil or Almond oil help? Is there anything I can do to get her a fairer skin? Please advise? TIA

I've done lots of baby showers and am running out of games. A co-worker put me in charge of planning the games for another co-worker's shower. Any ideas? We'll be in a restaurant, so we can't get too physical or loud.

Thank you

My 1 month old baby girl never finishes a complete 4 oz bottle so I tend to save the formula and combine the leftovers for later. She seems very gassy though for a baby and she's been running a low temp for several days now. Could this be because I save the formula and then give it to her later? Does formula go bad after say 6 hrs in the fridge?

My daughter is 5 months old, and uses the Gripe Water for gas. It works great and has made all the difference with her. I am wanting to prepare for teething. Lots of her friends already have teeth, so I know it is coming. I know there is baby Orajel, Motrin, Advil, etc. Does anyone know about the Hyland's Teething Gel? It is all natural, and says "no side effects."
The ingredients are:
Calcium phosplate, chamomilla, coffea cruda (coffee) and belladonna.
I am just wondering if this is even effective? Safe? Any thoughts?
