My 6 month old daughter always reaches for food and toys (and everything else :) ) with her left hand.does that mean she's right handed or can it still change?

I'm not stupid! I won't try to make her use the other hand. God, I just asked a question!

she holds her spoon in her left hand and when she sucks on her fingers, it's always the left hand. :)

Check the attached New Scientist article:
Handedness develops in the womb
The hand you favour as a 10-week-old fetus is the hand you will favour for the rest of your life, suggests a new study.

I have 3 lefty's in my house. Me and my hubby are both right handed but our 3 children are all left handed. The youngest is 25 mths the oldest is almost 8. They have always liked to use there left hand more at an early age.
I would say I think your daughter will be left handed.

No. A hand preference comes later on , usually after age 1, and is usually apparent when they are spoon feeding. Most babies will use one hand more when they are infants, and then switch later on. My daughter used her left hand more until she was about 10 months old and now at 19 months is right handed.

small children use both hands with equal usage. As they get older they show a preference. Sometimes children still use both hands up until they start school and at that time they are forced to decide which hand to use to do writing skills. My daughter used her left hand in her early years and she learned to write in school with her right. She does many tasks with her left hand today. So I would say she uses both hands very well and select her tasks accordingly to what hand she wishes to use. Read the Questions in the below website.

Handed-ness isn't set and in place until about 2 years old. My daughter started out doing everything with her left hand, then switched to her right hand around a year old. Now she's 18 months old and uses both to eat with her fork, and her right to use crayons. So we're still waiting to find out.
How fun!

I do not know when we can say our baby is left or right handed but have just remembered my mum told me the hand(thumb) baby was sucking in our womb is going to be the hand he/she will use the most in the future. It would be interesting to check your scan photo if you have, I thought. My daughter is also 6month and using both hand at the moment.

I don't know if it can still change, but my left handed son always reached for things with his left hand from the very beginning.

It is genetically pre-determined, however most babies tend to use both hands either equally or one slightly more than the other. By about 18 months it should be very clear which hand she favours.
