I constantly hear people who are against the war saying that fighting them there doesn't make us any safer. Alright, lets pretend that's the truth for a second and ask ourselves the follow-up question. If we pulled all of our troops out so they would be here to 'protect us', how exactly would that help?

We're not fighting an army that's going to invade us. We're fighting terrorists that are going to attack and retreat. What would these troops be doing here to protect us exactly? Patrolling the streets armed with assault rifles? I'm sure liberals would LOVE that right? Putting missile batteries on top of tall buildings to shoot down a renegade plane? On the border shooting anyone who tries to cross?

How exactly do you expect our army to protect us from this kind of threat? Or is keeping them tied up in the Iraq and Afghanistan really the only thing we can do?

The United Staes Air force is fielding new robotic jet fighters in Iraq. They will be "piloted" by a controller in Nevada. The US Army may be able to field new robotic attack vehicles in the near future. Would people care less about the war if it were only machines getting smashed? Of course this doesn't help the civilians.

I am what most of the right would call a left liberal, I consider myself a moderate, I vote for whom I think will do the best job. I plan on voting for a republican for governor of my state. I am working hard to save a nest egg so that my wife and I maybe able to retire semi-comfortably and I do not want my nest egg eaten up by taxes, however the 2 or 3 brain cells I have managed to keep healthy tells me we have to finance this God forsaken war somehow. Our educational system is in the tank and sinking, social security is disappearing. Where will I country find the funds? Please help this liberal understand where we will get the trillion dollars we will have spent in Iraq? The latest figures are we have spent 700 Billion, 135 billion this year alone with out the surge. General Mixon says if we tried to pull the troops out tomorrow it would take a minimum 18 months, it took a year to pull out of Kuait under the best of circumstances, so 2 or 3 years minimum to pull out.

Since the Democrats keep complaining about the Diebold voting machines being rigged (of which there is absolutely no proof), shouldn't we let them screw things up on their own? Particularly in precincts that have high concentrations of older Democrats.

First let me say I am not talking about ALL liberals... I am talking about allot of FAR LEFT LIBERALS. Please understand there is a difference.

Citizens of Venezuela are looking for asylum in this and other countries because they are being forced to flee from Chavez and his "Populist Government" (kind of ironic)- http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070715/pl_nm/usa_venezuela_asylum_dc

I have/had family in Venezuela, so I was already aware of the desire of so many of it's citizens that are trying to flee from Chavez and his dictatorship.

But I have heard many far left liberals claiming that Chavez is a great leader. Wouldn't you agree that if his own people are doing everything in their power to leave, that there is a major problem?

Perhaps we can make an exchange? The ultra far left who love Chavez for the innocent people of Venezuela who want to flee tyranny.

I think it is only fair.

Hey! thought the ultra left was leaving after the last election? Here is their chance.

What I want to know is .....if you do not approve of Bush, what exactly has he done for you to come to that conclusion. If this thread works the way I hope, we will get a good cross section of Bush's failings listed on here as each of you explain why you do not approve.

I am not saying you should or should not approve of Bush, and I am not saying that I approve or disapprove of him. I just want to know why you do not approve..and for you to list some of the reasons he has failed in your eyes.

Thank you in advance for your input...

I am curious as I walked away from organized religion in my 20's because I found it very hypocritical and factually baseless and just wrong on many things.

Is this what religious leaders are preaching?

George Bush has been quoted as saying to leaders of other countries that God told him to invade Iraq.

He's not crazy enough to be caught on record saying these things in front of U.S. media though!!

Is this a new phenomenon in U.S. politics?

Anyone else find this unsettling?

Do you think we make our choices are judged when we die

OR

Does God have a sort of punishment here on earth?

The punishment to ME seems that other people's FREE WILL and bad choices have the power to affect good people in negative ways.

We already have:

Alcoholic Beverage Tax
Cigarette and Tobacco tax
Contamination Tax
Controlled substance tax
Corporate Frachise Tax
Deed Tax
Estate and Trust tax
Fur tax
Luxury Tax
Individual income tax
Insurance Tax
Gambling Tax
Mineral Tax
Property Tax
Gas Guzzler Tax
Gasoline Tax
S Corp Tax
Sales and Use Tax
Water tax
Withholding Tax
Use Tax
Inheritence Tax
Poll Tax
Toll bridge and road tax (tolls)
Retirement Tax

Now we need another Carbon Tax? Here's the lube... I'll just bend over the chair FARTHER so Uncle Sam and the State can really pound away. No thanks. If I want to be taxed more, I'll move to a Socialist country where at least they say "thank you" after over some tea.

The carbon tax on a big car is already taxed a few ways: Gas Guzzler Tax (as usually those cars are larger and more powerful with bigger engines - then, those cars are sometimes "luxury" items and get hit with a "luxury" tax. Each time the car gets fueled up, at least in my state, we pay a Gasoline tax. It's the Karma Sutra of taxation... how many ways can you screw the tax payer over and tax them on the same thing. Whoever supports this is an outright idiot.
