The growing perception of corruption that our citizens are getting from the White House, added to the war, adds up to big losses ahead for Republican politicians. So many Republicans desperately point to the terrible approval rating of Congress to try and even it out, but it just doesn't compute. The American people may not be happy that the Democrats haven't been able to do much about the war, but they recognize two things. One is the obvious obstruction by the Republicans so nothing can be accomplished, the other is that they know exactly who to blame for this war, and it isn't the Democrats. It will take something drastic for the Republicans to really have a fighting chance at the '08 election. An end to the war, a cleaning house of their own party. It is unlikely that either one will happen, especially not in time to save their reputations - or their chance at getting back into the White House.

Overwhelmingly? if you look at the first poll, the numbers are not that far off, 1%-4%. that is in no sense of the word "Overwhelming".
The second poll shows an interesting degree of separation but the numbers are not to wide.
In the third the republicans have some advantage but the over all separation is again minimal for both sides.
Actually from what I see the best candidates would be Giuliani. And maybe Fred Thompson if he went head to head with Clinton, although I am sure he would do better thent the polls sugest with Obama.
Also consider the fact we are still a year and a half from the actual election, everything will change. some candidates will improve others will fall behind. who those candidates will be is still up in the air.
So you can crow about a poll taken nearly 17 months BEFORE an election, but anyone who has been paying attention to politics knows that the game is far from over and is holding off any real bets for a little while longer.

People are tired of republicans. Even republicans are tired of them.
This campaign season started out with John McCain being the only nationally well-known republican. He never got a fever going because he's so tied to the war in Iraq that he blew all his good will as a supposed maverick. Republicans have thrown their hats (and money) behind lesser knows like Guiliani, Romney and now Thompson even though they didn't know much about them, in the hope that they would save their party.
As they've found out more about them, they have liked them less and less and the polls are showing this.

If you will research this you would probably not open your mouth about it. Dems always lead by 6% to 9% in the polls as compared to what really happens.
I would have to say that is why the dems are a head, but you know what really counts don't you.
Republican congress and WH in 08, then that is it with all of the socialist garbage, bye bye.

I would assume because of the people they polled, more of them supported Democrats. Only makes sense. I can't find information on that site showing what the criteria is for the people they poll, but for real elections people must be registered voters.

When the republicans had free rein of the white house, congress, and the senate for six years they so abused that authority, and even now when one of them speak it is only empty words as anyone can see when they vote in the house and senate because they still back bush.

I think people are starting to realize what kind of people currently control the Republican party. Even moderate conservatives are jumping ship to independent parties, and the like.
Even the Extreme right-wing propaganda slingers are starting to realize that they are alienating their more moderate supporters, and are attempting to curb the extremist rhetoric a bit, after years of denouncing more moderate conservatives as libs.
that and the fact that people remember a better life before Bush, and would rather get back to that.
but then again, it is only a poll.

Wow that's a real scientific nail biter there you simpleton. Go find real evidence otherwise you just look like a Dem (you know a liar who tries to distract the world from the truth).
Thanks for the laugh though. It really shows how desperate you folks are getting.

I think Americans are afraid to vote for Republicans anymore. Too much spending and war and corruption.
