Must i remind them who are Liberals

Virtually every step forward in our history has been a liberal initiative taken over conservative opposition: civil rights, Social Security, Medicare, rural electrification, the establishment of a minimum wage, guaranteed bank deposits, the Federal Reserve, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Park Service, the National School Lunch Program, the Voting Rights Act, collective bargaining, the Pure Food and Drug Act, and federal aid to education, including the land-grant colleges, to name just a few. Many of these innovations were eventually embraced by conservatives only after it became clear that they had overwhelming public approval for the simple reason that almost every American benefited from them. Every one of these liberal efforts strengthened our democracy and our quality of life. Democrats/liberals are the party of the people as its history attests.

I hear that many think we will be able to seek independent medical treatment outside the government healthcare system. This is highly flawed logic even more so than some of the other problems i see with socialized healthcare. The moment the government is willing to foot the insurance companies will cease to provide medical insurance. They will take all their premiums and run. The companies we work for will stop paying for our insurance since the government is going to do that for them.

This will result in a loss of many jobs in the insurance and medical billing field. Yes our healthcare system is expensive and has problems but unversal is not the way to go.
Lets reform our civil courts to cut down on petty lawsuits. Retire the ambulance chasers and insurance will get cheaper.

Here is a question. If they give universal healthcare to the people will they give universal malractice insurance for our doctors. Heck that would proabably work better and be cheaper than UHC.

I've noticed alot of stereotypes about countries with Universal Health care are awfully incorrect (ie: 9 months in Canada to have an MRI.... ya it doesn't work that way lol).

Usually the only problems in countries with Universal Health coverage is that its not fully funded (like in Canada... because Provinces fund it and not the Feds.. it differs from place to place). I think perhaps many should actually educate themselves on the matter as opposed to simply listening to mind numbing ignorance. What do you think?

Louisiana Passes Near-Total Abortion Ban
Today Louisiana’s President of the Senate and Speaker of the House signed SB 33, approving a ban on abortion with an amendment to permit it only in order to save the woman’s life to avoid “permanent impairment.” There are no exceptions for cases of incest or rape. The ban is a trigger law, meaning it will only go into effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

All that remains to be done is for the Governor to sign the bill. In a recent interview, Gov. Kathleen Blanco said she’d sign it as is.

Kathleen Blanco is a Democrat.

She contends that the initial cost of UHC will be $120 Billion. Iraq has already cost 3 to 4 times that much and Bush used taxcuts to (I suppose) increase Federal Revenue. Should Hillary do the same... even if UHC ends up costing more?

In this crazy society we live in - giving disability benefits to drug addicts and alchholics - are we NOW going to give money to those who CHOOSE to get "addicted" to the Internet? Where is the PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070715/D8QD02LO0.html
A couple who authorities say were so obsessed with the Internet and video games that they left their babies starving and suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect. (**the kids are okay now)
While child abuse because of drug addiction is common, abuse rooted in video game addiction is rare, Viloria said.

Last month, experts at an American Medical Association meeting backed away from a proposal to designate video game addiction as a mental disorder, saying it had to be studied further. Some said the issue is like alcoholism, while others said there was no concrete evidence it's a psychological disease

This administration has run up a war debt that has trillions in a deficit. Are the citizens going to raise the roof if taxes have to be raised? This is already a serious issue but the issue is going to swell to gigantic proportions in the 08 elections. This may sound a bit callous with our troops fighting an unjust war as it is but there has got to be a reconning anent this spending problem.

Don't you think congress has enough control on our money and lives today without willing turn more over to them, after all only 14% of Americans even approve of congress.

This number, which is 1.8 trillion dollars, yes TRILLION, is the size of the health care industry, it represents 14% of our GDP.

There is a reason we spend so much, we like good health care. For those who want to throw out Canada as a good example of socialist health care, read the article by the Canadian below.

To give control of this of course comes with a cost, this number represents $5,959 for every man, woman and child in the US. That is less than what I pay today, why on earth would I want to increase my costs. You can buy a pretty good insurance policy for that kind of bucks, and you do know that will go up 40% with the Fed in.

In this article,
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070715/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Titled Aide: Iraqi PM's comments misconstrued
The first paragraph is basically just saying what the headline says,

the next TWO have nothing to do with the headline but talk about car bombs and insurgent tortured bodies and one of our soldiers dying (May he rest in peace).

Then the story just picks back up where it left off.

Is this a form of brainwashing, spinning, decietfulness? Don't get me wrong, the public has a right to know these things, but what does that have to do with this story?

I think that they put this stuff in all articles because we wouldn't read a story JUST about car bombs. So they feed it to us like a pill you hide in mashed patatoes from your child.

What do you think?
