Ultimately they did try to get him . . . but failed. I think it's good political policy to have the legislative and executive branches split between party lines. It seems like whenever only one party controls both branches we get way off track.

Congress has two parts. During the Gingrich revolution, the House made an extremely popular compact with America with virtually everything in being passed - then not being passed in the Republican Senate. Clinton did a lot of damage but this grassroots upwelling personalized by the House mitigated the damage. Having a President from a different party then Congress tends to curb radicalism from both ends but works best only when there is a clear majority and both houses of Congress see eye-to-eye. Note that the Democrats Congressional majority is small and not likely to grow much if not shrink in the next couple of elections so more stalemate is the likely forecast.

I didn't think it was that workable. I think the republicans tried to get Clinton and did the same way the Democrats are trying to get Bush. The thought of a Democratic President and congress will be like a nightmare to me.

Because it demonstrates that checks and balances work, and they did! That's the entire goal behind a two party system.

We have our work cut out though. Our two party system has sold out to special interest groups and we the voters, are being screwed.. ROYALLY!

Who the hell do you think balanced the budget? It sure as hell wasn't old Clinton, unless it entailed destroying the military.
