This administration has run up a war debt that has trillions in a deficit. Are the citizens going to raise the roof if taxes have to be raised? This is already a serious issue but the issue is going to swell to gigantic proportions in the 08 elections. This may sound a bit callous with our troops fighting an unjust war as it is but there has got to be a reconning anent this spending problem.

Thanx for all the answers and even the diatribe from booman but there's onlt been a couple of answers as to HOW we're gonna accomplish this and they lean toward raising taxes. I was hoping someone would have another intelligent idea but as much as I hate to say it... It looks like the next President will really face some challenges.

TAXES!!!!!!!!

There is no way around it. We will be taxed to death for the next few generations regardless of which party is the next prez.

Of course if the Dems win in 2008 and they are responsible enough to start getting this huge dept paid down by hiking taxes, the Repugs will scream "tax and spend liberal!", totally ignoring the facts (as always) that it was their very own party that created the mess that a Dem prez has to now clean up.

If a Repug somehow ever gets truely elected and they hike takes, the Repugs will quietly justify it as being responsible by paying down the debt.

A couple of things wrong; you call this an unjust war... What is that supposed to mean. The president asked for authorization and Congress gave it so its not illegal. Unjust? The United Nations gave their blessing. So how is it unjust? Because you said so? As far as the debt, the deficit has been going down or haven't you been paying attention. Every time tax cuts are enacted the deficit starts going down because the government collects more money. I also notice that you confuse the debt with deficit. Take a class in macro economics and another in common sense.

The next president, Democrat or Republican, will have to raise taxes just like Bush the First had to raise taxes to pay for Ronald Reagen's massive debt.

Have you noticed that while that goes on, the deficit has been reduced dramatically and there may even be a surplus in 2 years. Stop listening to talking points and do some research.
