If it is necessary for politicians in Iraq to reach 18 benchmarks in order to achieve a more peaceful union between the different tribes in Iraq, how much progress can we count in some progress on 8 of those benchmarks.

People keep saying we need a political solution and it has to come from the Iraqi Parliament. Well how can it come from a Parliament in which they often can't hold sessions because not enough people show up. Local governments are starting to work with us. This is good. Blindly supporting a government that is more interested in political gain for themselves than the survival of their country is going to cause us great pain in the future. If Bush can get them to pull their act together and start functioning we might see a more peaceful Iraq.

It is unlikely the Press & the Left will allow the US to EVER win another war. We are militarily to stronge for the other side to have an equal chance of winning, therefore, the Press & the Left write up the rules of engagement to the benefit the underdog. Then to further empower the other side they become both their cheer leader & 5th column.

Truthfully the Press has a vested interest in a war continuing. Violence on TV increases ratings. Ratings directly relate to the amount they can charge advertizers. The press becomes the best salesgroup for the merchants of death, of cource they will deny this.

I don't even know if we have ever defined victory.

For instance; Victory over the Saddam's Iraqi army (tangible), in that you can defeat an army and invade a nation.

Victory over Islamic extremism and sectarian violance...(intangliable)....how do you defeat idologies with force? You can't, and that is why it needs to be looked at in a different standard. How would you know when you won?

another example: You can beat Nazi Germany....yet nazism can still exist, as long as there are Nazis.

When was the last victory that we could spin into defeat 1945?Are you believing that propaganda?
Bush September 2004 "making steady progress"
Bush April 2005 We're making good progress in Iraq."
Bush November 2005"The Iraqi people are making incredible progress"
Today 2007 Iraqi army has shrunk from 10 battalions to 6. i don't see victory to spin.

Not aware we've done that. I know we've done it the other-way around since the '50s... Korea, Vietnam, Iraq...
