The United Staes Air force is fielding new robotic jet fighters in Iraq. They will be "piloted" by a controller in Nevada. The US Army may be able to field new robotic attack vehicles in the near future. Would people care less about the war if it were only machines getting smashed? Of course this doesn't help the civilians.

You'd still have the anti war nuts crying because we blasted away the terrorists.

They are nothing new, but are becoming much more reliable. We've been using combat drones since the first Gulf War for recon. The new Predators are the first ones I've heard of that carry an armament, and have been used to great effect at attacking distant targets. They activated the first all-robotic Air Wing a few months back, there were stories all over the place.

They work really well, but I don't see much of a point. They are airborne units dropping bombs, so it really doesn't solve a problem as the enemy isn't shooting down our conventional planes to begin with. When they build a robot that can storm a building and take out the bad guys, then we might see some real benefit.

While I'm glad fewer soldiers would be in danger, I'd still be concerned about whether the robotic fighters could target the right, well, targets in Iraq. Civilians who die in Iraq are also a tragic loss.

If the robots were better at honing in on actual terrorists? Go, robots.

As long as they are pretty much bug proof before we start using them so no accidental mishaps occur then I'm all for the future of warfare. Less soldier deaths and still able to get the job done accordingly whats to complain about. Of course there in lies the problem if theres nothing to complain about then what do the cry babies do :P

If that is true, then that would be a great boost for what people think about the war. People are much more willing to spend money than allow blood to be shed. Somehow though, I doubt this could be that significant.

Our wars have to some extent become that way.

No one minded Iraq until it started getting hundreds of troops killed.

I wonder if Americans have the courage to protect themselves if it means someone has to die.

I think it would be good. And the left should like it since many say they don't care what happens to Iraqis after the war is over.

There are MANY robotic devices in development, and many in use already.

Nothing new.

Oh sure, just let the robots die instead?

I wouldn't care less. There are still innocent men, women and children dying daily in Iraq. Our news media doesn't cover this which I think is criminal in itself.
