First problem, the US is NOT a two-party system.
Nothing in the Constitution or any statute defines it as a two-party system, and in fact there are many other parties.
Yes, the system is broken because two parties have managed to obtain a lock on the electoral process, thereby shutting out all other parties almost completely.
