I talk to so many people about the war and I always hear different point of views. I have a fiance who is currently serving at Camp Taji which is slightly north of Baghdad. He has been there since July and probably won't return home until October. First I am pretty perplexed that he is a National Guard member, and has to serve such a long tour. Most of the people I know who are active duty and do this at their regular job have less lengthy tours. Why is this? I always thought the National Guard was hence here for the "National" defense. Also, as he has learned and told me the Iraqi army is VERY corrupt. But who would of thought, right? So do we really think that once our mission is accomplished in Iraq that the government will truly be capable of handling the issues that exist. I am so torn between what I feel. In a way I want the war to be over, but in a way I know that we need to complete the mission. If we don't all the lives lost so far were lost for nothing. Is that fair to them?

My husband extended for the next deployment and they're supposed to give a bonus in lump sum. (Assignment Incentive Pay to Extend Enlistment for Deployments). He signed the papers over three weeks ago, and it was approved over a week or so ago. Does anyone know how long it takes? (He's upset it hasn't come in yet)
Thanks in advance for the help :)

I was reading the job description and it sounds like something i want to do (lots of field work and research). I know these descriptions can sometimes be misleading does anyone know a geologist working for the AF if so what do they do?? Is it really just a lame office job?? Do they work with NASA or USGS at all?? Where and what kind of research do they do??

I know questions have been asked similar to this one but here's the catch lol... It's Christmas time and I'd really like to get him some things that will make his life as comfortable as possible while he's gone to the sand box. He has every console, and a laptop.( He's a big gamer ) I've already gotten him a Psp ( with 2 games) a few books and a board game, but I'd like to get him something more.
Any suggestions ?
Any guys or gals been over there and said to themselfs "Man I really wish I had such and such ?" Thanks in advance for the help = )

Recently I asked a question about why Officers get paid more. And for the most part the replies were, "Officers get paid more because they are sacrificing a prosperous civilian career." Well I know alot of Enlisted people that have degrees, arent they sacrificing too? My question is do you think there should be a pay supplement for those Enlisted people? Similar to a COLA allowance.

The lack of flack jackets, hard vehicles and now the appalling Nimrod disaster, not to mention pointed criticisms from senior officers. Are such problems really limited to our forces among the western democracies in the EEC and NATO? As a civilian I am angry, but well aware I have no knowledge other than press reports. And that is always a very poor basis for opinion.

Hi I am joining the Navy, and I just did my physical yesturday. Anyway I had ACL surgery and was told that I would need a waiver for that which would go to BUMED. Well the Chief Medical Officer at MEPS did not disqualify me which I was told would happened because its regulation for some things and ACL reconstruction is one of them. Again, anyway when I was done with the physical which I passed with flying colors (you know the stuff in your underwear for those who are military) I took my packet to the front desk and they said all I needed was a consult from one of their orthopedic doctors that they schedule for. I thought that was weird because usually BUMED requests a consult before the waiver is fully approved, but CMO said all the needs to see is a consult and I'm cleared. Well I'll get to my question I looked at my PHULES score and got all 1's except a 0 on the Lower exermities. I looked it up there is no 0 is the CMO leaving it at 0 till he gets the results of the consult.

I read that a spinal curvature that is greater than 55 degrees is considered as a medical disqualifiation for the military in general. I know that the Air Force has different standards. A couple years ago it was something like if the curvature is greater than 25 degrees, then you would be disqualified. And so my question is, is that still the standard?

So I have pictures of a friend in the military performing oral sex on another man........Now would this get him kicked out? Or does the sodomy have to occur within the military? Also, I have the friends name..........but I don't know how to send these pics to the military! Is there some universal address of the US military........like if I put the pictures and his name on them would they be able to find his military boss and get him kicked out? Do military people have chiefs or who is in charge of determining if they are gay?
