I can tell you from experience it can really vary. I received orders for Europe a month before graduating AIT. The day of graduation I was handed new orders for Ft. Riley, Kansas with only 5 days until I had to report. I was dissapointed and confused cause I was all ready for Europe
Three years later, I came down with orders for Europe again. My paper orders showed a specific post in Europe that I had to report to in 4 months. A month out, I was handed 3 new paper orders, all for Europe, all with different Posts, all with the same in-processing date.
The day I arrived in Europe and was picked up by the military, that's when I knew for sure where I was going. I'm not sure if this helps any at all...lol. But it seems to be the going fashion with at least the Army.

When you are IN school you will have the opportunity to choose orders, sort of. It depends on how long your school is as to when this happens. It goes in order like this, people with dependants at home are given certain choices and the person with the highest score in class goes first. All the single people go next and it is based on rank E3 and Above first. Then they look at your class ranking and you are the best student in class you go first in choosing from what orders they show you. Also, not all people can get overseas orders so some people may get stuck with those even if they don't want them. Not everyone can pass and overseas screening. Your best bet is to do the very best you can in school so you have good orders to choose from. If not you get what is left and you may not like that choice.

It can range from 6 months to 3 weeks. Let's just say we had our 6 month duty station assign and then we have also had 3 weeks to move across country. Funny things have happened. It is the needs of the military. Been there done that . Fourth duty station. It has been great thought!

depends. If you are in school, you can generally expect to get orders within 30 days of graduating, although I have seen instances where orders did not come down until after you finish.
If you are currently at an operational Command, you start discussing matters with your Detailer 6-9 months out. this last PCS, we started in October, got hard copies in December and PCSd in March.

Have him refer to his admin branch and discover out precisely while his computers date is, it could be on his orders. the only time I transferred I knew the place i replace into going various months till now i in my opinion went. as far as how lots somewhat shifting time i think of relies upon on how distant the recent accountability station is.

It really just depends - normally upon graduation or close to it if you are in school, if you're not it can be anywhere from 10months out to three weeks!
