By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer 2 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - Violence in Iraq remains high, fewer Iraqi security forces are capable of acting independently, and the Baghdad legislature has failed to reach major political agreements needed to curb sectarian violence, says a report released Tuesday.

Last weekend, I attended “Spearhead”, a regional gathering of 1/16 scale RC tank enthusiasts. While there, we showed off our latest creations, talked about the newest RC “goodies”, and staged an engagement between “Blue Force” and “OPFOR” which was open to the public.

Since my grandfather serves as a tank mechanic in the Pacific during World War II, it should come as no surprise that I joined the WWII wing of the club and have constructed several of the USMC vehicles which my Grandfather once repaired, including an M4 Sherman, DUKW, LVT(A)4, and am currently attempting to build an M4A3R3 “Zippo”.

However, since we engage in mock “combat” (in which we shoot infrared laser beams from the various “weapons” on out vehicles and disable those vehicles we hit) we need to also construct some models to serve in OPFOR.

As a Vietnam vet and because of the degredation of societal mores, I really think that 2 years (mandantory) for every one to serve in the armed forces, would be an asset..Do you agree/disagree..Why...?

My husband just signed a contract giving him a $20,000 enlistment bonus with the Navy (it is a lump sum, not 50% now and the rest later). He has already served but it is not considered a reenlistment since he was inactive for a couple years. I know for most people they have to wait until after A school and boot camp but since he doesn't have to go through that again how long should it take? My husband says it will probably be around 30 days (when we get our first LES) but I was hoping that it would be sooner. Any ideas?

I would like to start off by saying im in the best shape of my life so all the running they do wont be "TO" much of a factor.

I think the hardest part for me will be all the technical stuff and learning about the Parachute and how to fold it up and such things like that but IDK anything about what it would be like....So can anybody tell what might be the the "HARDEST" technical part of airborne School?

If we cut and run Iraq will collapse into a terrorist breeding failed state (plus the world will know we've failed).

It should also be obvious to anyone with half a brain that we are not winning now, and can't ever win with the current level of troops.

Why can't everyone (including the generals) just admit the obvious - only the draft and at least 500,000 troops on the ground can win this war.

The Proud Marine entered and sat down to be served and then discovered the restaurant was owned by Iraq people. (Note: There are 500,000 arabs in Michigan) When the nice little sweet waitress (Who is an Iraqi) ask him what he would like he took one look at her and his lower lip started to quiver and he broke down and cried like a newborn baby. Now why would that Marine do that for?

I talked to my recruiter and he told me PJ reservists work more than 1 weekend a month and have to live fairly close to the base they are assigned to.
So I was trying to figure out how much they make since they have to pay for their own house or apartment or can they live on base and the military covers it or what?
Also any good work outs I could do to get in better shape.
Right now im doing....
5 sets or max push ups rest 2 mins in between ( every other day)
10 set of max push ups rest 2 mins in between (on push up days)
run 1 mile every other day.
5 sets of max sit ups on run days.
anything i can do to get in better shape?....and is their any good weight gaining protien shakes or bars that have worked for you...They really dont do much for me or i havent noticed a significant change in weight yet at least.

Thanks, Matt

Do you? like me think this war is illeagle and unwinable, another vietnam or like Russia another Afganistan. do you think we should stand and fight or cut and run while we still can.
Can the war in both places be won or is it just like russia a war of attrition that one day we will have to give up on anyway or go the way of the USSR

I don't see any Pros out of this. Only cons and further tension and very near future warfare.

Here are two arguments. Which one do you believe was perceived from the rest of the world:
1. US troops slaughtering innocent civilans in a tiny Vienam, rallied more people to communism, then if they would have left things well enough alone.
2. US tropps fighting with the biggest war machine of all time the massive firepower of the bad, bad communits, saved the world in Vietnam.

the surge is a temporary, unsustainable, attempt to qwell violence so that political progress can be made.unfortunately progress is not being made. (failed 13 of 18 benchmarks) so while our good soilders risk their lives to referee age old violence the president refuses to admit he made a mistake. there is no military win for us in iraq the iraqis must take control from here.the idea that the surge has worked is foolish, by flooding ths streets with military force that cannot be sustained means little without political progress ,which of course we can't give them.
