My husband might be getting discharged from the NAVY. How long does it normally take for them to get a medical or administrative discharge?

no telling. ADMIN discharges are sometimes in lieu of punishment, so therefore they can drag it out as it is not a priority. Med Discharges require lots and lots of paperwork and going before Med Boards, which also results in months of waiting.

An admin discharge can happen fast, very fast. If the CO is motivated to get rid of him it can be just a matter of a couple days, assuming the CO has discharge authority.

A medical discharge will most likely take longer. There's a lot of documentation that needs to get gathered and then the CO will have to forward everything to a Medical Board for consideration. After the board is finished, if they recommend a discharge, it will not take long.

If it's a medical discharge he should get his hands on this treatment record and copy every page, starting with the MEPS phyiscal. He'll need it for the VA.
