Last weekend, I attended “Spearhead”, a regional gathering of 1/16 scale RC tank enthusiasts. While there, we showed off our latest creations, talked about the newest RC “goodies”, and staged an engagement between “Blue Force” and “OPFOR” which was open to the public.
Since my grandfather serves as a tank mechanic in the Pacific during World War II, it should come as no surprise that I joined the WWII wing of the club and have constructed several of the USMC vehicles which my Grandfather once repaired, including an M4 Sherman, DUKW, LVT(A)4, and am currently attempting to build an M4A3R3 “Zippo”.
However, since we engage in mock “combat” (in which we shoot infrared laser beams from the various “weapons” on out vehicles and disable those vehicles we hit) we need to also construct some models to serve in OPFOR.

While I am currently also constructing a Japanese Type 97 Medium tank (identical to one destroyed on Iwo Jima) from scratch to be my contribution to OPFOR, I was given a nearly complete model of a German Tiger I by a friend of mine who was moving and couldn’t take his “toys” with him.
Since the Tiger I is a really neat tank, and the model was nearly complete, I decided to finish this model and employ it as part of OPFOR in our mock battle.
After our first battle, two boys began examining all my vehicles, which I had used at various stages of our mock battle and had on display as I was waiting for our next battle to begin. Likely because it was one of the few tanks that wasn’t green, these boys immediately took an interest in the Tiger I and began asking me questions about this tank.
As I answered these questions, I was sure to tell these boys that this was a “bad guy tank”.

Never the less, they soon dragged their father over to look at my tanks and began begging him to get them one (BTW: these tanks cost about $300 for a kit and $600 for a finished model. It is possible to build one from scratch, but this takes a lot of time and a lot of skill.).
After examining the tank for a few minutes, their father noticed the (historically accurate) Knights Cross on the tanks turret and immediately began a diatribe about how horrible it was that I had that symbol on my tank, how this was somehow “Bush’s fault”, and how he was going to call his friend in the ACLU and promote “free speech” by having us removed (we were on private property so we could have him removed, not the other way around).
Why is it that Liberals seem to enter into these rage filled diatribes at the mere sight of certain symbols, without examining the context in which their presented (in this case, on historically accurate RC tank models which were being employed in mock combat).

PS. OPFOR lost each battle staged that day, likely because they were outnumbered by a factor of 10)

Mr. X,
I was expecting the same reaction we get from most people and this guys kids, namely to either to tell us how great the detail is, or to demand to know why the barrel doesn't elevate in addition to turning in the turret (children tend to demand to know why everything on these models doesn't work, regardless of how small).

You seem to have revealed the true nature of liberal "thinking" which amounts to immature diatribes. Almost every single reaction to your question, when answered by a liberal, has been nothing but demeaning and sophomorish. On the other hand, the people who seemed conservative, possibly, have answered with respect and "thoughtfulness". As for me, I love history and, especially, historical accuracy. My brother used to build and paint military models, very accurately, including scenes of battle, with a lighter and carving tools. It may portray violence, but in a historical context.

Now how many people do you honestly think are going to read this entire rant that you spent so much time on? I'll simply answer your main question by saying that Ann Coulter makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. So I guess I have a very negative reaction to symbols of intolerance and ignorance.
I'm afraid I might start having the same kind of reaction whenever I see your name.

I suspect that if you had put out a T-32 Soviet tank, they would have heaped you with praise ! Libs are NOT in full possesion of senses. They also can't stand history presented accurately, only if it agrees with thier socialist point of view.

Don't stereotype. This guy was either an idiot or looking for some excuse he could use not to buy a $300+ tank for his kids. "Symbols are for the Symbol-minded" - George Carlin.

You sound moderately surprised..... Libs don't want you to have freedoms, any of them, period. It's not symbols, it's a way of life!
And I salute you for keeping the memories of your grandfather alive..... Keep up the good work (and OPFOR always loses!)
I love the answer below me, models are okay but teaching that killing is fun is wrong. Where, in his entire story did it say someone, or something was portrayed as dieing? Get a grip. Does a racing video game teach a child to speed? Does a fishing video game teach a child to fish? Does the biography of Davy Crockett teach a child to hunt bears?

If libs could think critically, they wouldn't be libs, would they?
Their ignorance doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that they refuse to do anything about it. This is the "information age" for the love of Pete! Friggin Google something and educate yourself!
It's ridiculous, if I mention certain key words (like "privatize") they loose their hold on reality and immediately go into an irrational, hate filled diatribe that has nothing to do with math or economics in the real world.

It's really quite simple. Like Bill Clinton, stick your index finger in your mouth then pull it out and see which direction the wind is blowing!

Liberals, conservatives, etcetera must eat turds for breakfast cause normal people can smell their foul poop-scented mouths for miles.
Whoever gives this a thumbs down is a poopeater by association.
