If we cut and run Iraq will collapse into a terrorist breeding failed state (plus the world will know we've failed).

It should also be obvious to anyone with half a brain that we are not winning now, and can't ever win with the current level of troops.

Why can't everyone (including the generals) just admit the obvious - only the draft and at least 500,000 troops on the ground can win this war.

Why do we need half a million troops on the ground? Are there reports of the major massing of troops and armored support somewhere in that country I haven't heard of?
The war against the Salafist Jihadists will be won with tactics and strategy that are radical departures from the military doctrine of the past. Contact with the enemy won't be coming from hurling large concentrations of troops against them. It will be small units (company down to platoon and squad size) showing up where the enemy is hiding in "Beyit Al Shuhada" (Martyrs' Houses), kicking in the door and shooting them in the head.
Congressman Rangel of New York introduced a bill to restore the draft last year. But, his reason to do so was more concerned with the high unemployment rate of young men in his district. A draft will not help in this war. It will only burden training and doctrine commands with the job of training men who will be ready to leave by the time they are ready for the mission of fighting the war. I served in the era of the draft and in the era of the all-volunteer force. I much prefer the latter. I suspect that those on active duty today feel the same way.

Iraq's already a breeding ground for terrorists because we made it that way. If we leave it'll be more like a breeding ground for genocide as the balance of power our military tries to keep between religious sects will disappear. More troops will help maintain order in the country but it's not a long term solution. Long term Iraq must be able to function on it's own without US intervention

Reinstates the draft. are you nuts. I do not want a wuss in a hole with me. Hell They would give the enemy all the info they want willing if they are caught. use your head, Its not the amount of troops needed its the government that is holding us back. let us do the jobs we have been trained to do. untie our hands and unleash the dog. Its a war of who is the bigger threat. If we get the pay back for our fallen they will retreat. there is no innocents in war.

LMAO, look believe me there is a middle ground in this whole situation. It isn't about winners or losers, it's about peace and justice. There is also a difference between redeploying and retreating. What we need is better leadership. My good friends and many other heroic people are being needlessly endangered in a bogus "Wild West Showdown" and for what? Our Government and military leaders should support our troops and let them do they enlisted for.

Sez who?? You, what do you know about it?? I served with the last of the draftees 35 years ago. They didn't want to be in the military and the military doesn't want them in the military. The draft is a ploy to ruin the U.S. Military which is the finest military in the world.

If you feel so strongly about this why don't you go volunteer to serve and do your bit to be part of the solution instead of being part of the problem!

Conscripted troops are great if you want a cannon fodder Army. A smaller professional Army is more efficient ands costs less in the long run.

We lost Vietnam and we (The USA ) is still here. No big deal if we lost Iraq. The USA will be better off in the long run if we lose. Keep this in mind. Today I bought clothes from wal Mart that was made in Vietnam. So don't give me this "We need a draft".

Only if you want a huge exodus to Canada. This war is unwinnable period. Just like Vietnam. Look how much good a draft did there...
