the surge is a temporary, unsustainable, attempt to qwell violence so that political progress can be made.unfortunately progress is not being made. (failed 13 of 18 benchmarks) so while our good soilders risk their lives to referee age old violence the president refuses to admit he made a mistake. there is no military win for us in iraq the iraqis must take control from here.the idea that the surge has worked is foolish, by flooding ths streets with military force that cannot be sustained means little without political progress ,which of course we can't give them.

Maybe you just think this because our media is so woefully biased and ignorant of what is really going on over there. Why was this article only published in an Australian newspaper? http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22337285-601,00.html

And yet General Patreus is completely ignored by our media. What gives? Is the news TOO good coming out of Iraq? Let's be specific: The Iraqis have failed 13 out of 18 benchmarks, that were scored on AN ALL-OR-NOTHING scale. The 'benchmarks' are not including any significant progress towards being met, only if they have been met or not. This is a little simplistic when you consider you are measuring the health of an entire country.

Then again, the Democrats in Congress aren't too bright...maybe a simplistic 'check yes or no' is the best we can expect out of them.

Well By your thought process, Since we have crime in the streets and can't stop it we pack up the cops and go home? Goodbye Detroit, LA, New Orleans, etc.
Since the Phila schools have only 40% meeting no child left behind requirments? We should leave them behind?

Your house is on Fire. "Well" says the Fire chief, "we don't want to risk the lives of good firefighters to save doc_of_three." "There would be no win for us to spend money & water to a battle in which we can not sustain."

It doesn't matter and there war two wars.
Short before the end of the Vietnam war, the Government was still selling it as absolute necessary to stem the tidal wave of communism.
Not until people where so feed up and Millions went onto the streets, the governments had to stop.
Today, people are to lazy to go to the streets. They are just watching, as our tax money and our economy goes down the drain.
Almost everybody I know is against the two wars, but nobody is willing to do anything about it. We are pathetic as a nation.

How much you wanna bet that Congress doesn't order the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq? Congress will also pass that $50 billion that President Bush is asking for. The democrats are only acting like they are against the war so they can dupe people like you into supporting their political campaigns. But when it comes down to it, they haven't acted upon their words because they know we need to be there. We're not going anywhere for a while. You don't believe me, just sit back and watch.
