Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has said that he vows revenge on the UK and the Royal Navy. Due to his new wealth he has been able to acquire the latest Russian and Iranian technology and is calling for the reinvasion of the islands. However I am sceptical of this new technology as the RN in a few years will be the most advanced fleet in the world with type 45s, astutes and the new carriers. I think we could and it would be easier as the missiles and planes couldn't get near a fleet with type 45s. Thoughts?

The government has started identifying Iran as a threat and claiming they're harboring terrorists and giving bombs to others. Why should we believe them, when they lied about Iraq having WMDs?

I have chatted online with some Iranian people and they say that the U.S.A is lying to try to go to war with them. I am not sure what to think about all of this.

So as we all know, there has been a lot of contreversy in Canada over the War in Afghanistan. A lot of people want to pull the troops out by 2009.

This is, of course fuelled by the negative media (another soldier was killed blah).

One of the arguments I have seen around various places is about the Afghanis resenting NATO presence in their country...

But maybe you should take a look?

For those of you who are a bit lazy and don't want to look at the link, it is the President of Afghanistan submitting a plea to the Canadian people to stay in Afghanistan.

So, Canada - are we ready to abandon Afghanistan? To abandon over thirty million people? All of the progress we have made - after all, every little girl that gets an education in Kandahar is a Canadian victory...

Your thoughts?

The Democrats have been trying to pass legislation this week (Sept 17th) to end or draw down the war in Iraq with no success due to Republican opposition. Wouldn't it be easier to just not pass any spending bills, or give the President much less than he requests in those spending bills?
Am I missing something?

I was listening to a story on NPR about a solider who returned with serious brain injuries and they mentioned that his family is one of very few who have a special photo of the solider that is only given to the families if the solider is killed. I'm curious about this photo. When is it taken, what makes it so special (aside from the obvious that it's given on the death of the solider), what becomes of this photo when the solider leaves the military, is it only taken if they are going into combat?

Voted not to give them 6 more weeks of break between tours of duty in Iraq. Vet funding down the drain. Making our military pathetic pawns for Oil Companies and private contractors who order our military around. Pathetic.

According to the New York Times, there is an epidemic of cholera in Iraq. The virus (or bacteria) that causes the disease doesn't care whether you are an Iraqi or an American. If an American soldier serving in Iraq catches the disease, he will inevitably bring it to the US. How can we prevent that from happening?

I was watching 'Commando:on the front line' the other evening and one of the first demonstrations the new recruits were subjected to was a burly tattooed marine demonstrating how to have a shower.
Happily, during my days in the Guards some years ago we weren't subjected to such sights.

I have seen figures ranging from 50,000 to 1.5 million. "The Lancet", a British medical journal, places the figure at 1.5 million based on statistical projection. This estimate seems very high. What would an accurate estimate be?

I am avoiding editorial comment. If you want to comment, please do.
