Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has said that he vows revenge on the UK and the Royal Navy. Due to his new wealth he has been able to acquire the latest Russian and Iranian technology and is calling for the reinvasion of the islands. However I am sceptical of this new technology as the RN in a few years will be the most advanced fleet in the world with type 45s, astutes and the new carriers. I think we could and it would be easier as the missiles and planes couldn't get near a fleet with type 45s. Thoughts?

sorry everyone i'm new to this. those new details above should say: i know they're still british and i know it was argentina originally but chavez is proposing an alliance

many of you seem to be scepticle of chavez's involvement. Chavez is highly anti - western and hates the fact that part of s. america is dominated by 'colonialists'. he wants argentina to invade and he would sink the british fleet. there was an article in the sunday times if you want to have a look.

Hugo Chavez is a twit and he is riding for a fall. He is the Mugabe of Venezuela. The Falklands are British and woe betide any idiots who try to take them from us.

We don't need to recapture the Falklands , no country in that area has the capacity to take them from the UK and we are the legal owners of the Falklands under international law..

Remember when they "captured" the Falklands, that is about 40 UK soldiers only were there, after the invasion we had to calculate a force big enough to guarantee recapture and to remove 15000 Argentinian troops, Our calculation was just over 6000 UK troops would be needed, this shows you what we think of the Argentinian army.

We are Brits, we could retake America if we put our minds to it. As long as the enemy wears a recognisable uniform they dont stand a chance, which is why we cant win in the Middle East, they look like civilians.
Nothing can stop the RN, RAF or the British Army.
With the new carrier battlegroups our projectable firepower will equal the entire projectable firepower of South America. We might need to borrow a few cruise ships to move the lads but there is no way any South American country could retake the Falklands.
GR9's combined with air defence from the JSF's could take any jets the Argies have. They are still operating A4's and Mirage Variants which have only been updated from the last war.
Their Navy is still using Super Etendards and they only have 9 of them.
Its all so hopelessly outdated that they just wouldnt stand a chance. If tensions rose, putting 2 squadrons of Typhoons on the Falklands would effectively neutralise the threat.
Now, I am only speaking in terms of airpower, the navy could easily put half a dozen nuclear submarines into the fight of which Argentina has none. Our destroyers would easily wipe out any air threat from the outdated weapons they have now.

We would have to draw firepower from the Gulf but there is no way the Falklands could be retaken and held if we fought back.

How to prevent an invasion of the Falklands without firing a shot.

At the first intelligence hint of an attack, send a couple of the old T Class subs near to the Argentinian coast, maybe have one of the Vanguard boats a few hundred miles away, and inform the Argentinians and Mr Chavez that any military movement from an Argentinian port will be sunk.
Nothing will leave port. They're terrified of our subs, because they're better than anything the Argies can lay their hands on.

Quite why Hugo Chavez would be vowing revenge for something that had precisely nothing to do with his country is beyond me, I'm afraid.

And if by some miracle the political will in Argentina allowed for another ill-judged military action, public opinion in the UK would demand the return, and any sensible PM would authorize military action. It'd be costly work, in lives, finance and probably ships, but our forces, small or not, are fully volunteer, highly trained and if something needs doing, like taking back our territory, it'd take a lot more than a few thousand Argentinian conscripts to stop us.
They're a lot better trained now than they used to be, but they'd still be sh*t scared of the Ghurkas. They retreated rather than face them last time.

Hugo Chavez is all mouth and trousers and like any other south American banana republic dictactor, he has no idea what he's dealing with when it comes to the UK.

In the event of an invasion of the Falklands, it's not so much the British who the likes of Chavez need to worry about, it's the wrath of the USA.

The USA is already pissed off with Chavez and if he decides to invade British Soverign territory, the Americans will simply go beserk.

This is exactly the excuse the US will need to invade Venesuala, do away with Chavez and take back the oil biz into the free market where it belongs.

Please stay awake!

All Hugo has is money and a fantasy of becoming a world power. This will never happen, and if anyone is silly enough to make the Falklands an issue, once again, the end results will be much the same as the first time.

The Falklands belong to huge Britain. Argentina will in no way have it in view that British blood has been spilled protecting it from them. besides the persons residing in the Falklands do not prefer Argentina governing them, so which you won't be in a position to pass around ruling people who hate you. on each occasion the Argentinian government gets into concern with the aid of not dealing with Argentina effectively, it tries to benefit help from its inhabitants with the aid of distraction procedures like this one. Argentina does not prefer the Falklands, it in basic terms makes use of it as political soccer with the British on each occasion it needs to look like this is doing stable for the Argentinian human beings. overlook it, if the Argentine forces attempt something, they gets hammered like they did final time, and that they comprehend it! have not they found out their lesson? of direction they have. This all a great style of warm air and baloney!

Hugo Chavez of Venezuela? What does he have to do with Argentina and there claim to the Falklands?

Chavez should shut his a.s.s up, it insults the memory of the Argentinian heroes who gave their lives on those islands. The UK can stay there as long as they want, and that´s because Argentina is the least patriotic country in the world (our leaders have been selling and ravaging our own country for two centuries).

So, dont care about the Falklands, as an Argie myself, i can tell you, we actually never cared for them.

Talking is an easy affair especially when you do not know about what you are talking or do not understand at the content or do not not how to argue a point. It happens to any ( incl.me) but at second thoughts we better say little and at third thought stay silent ( -not all will understand you! and perhaps call you names ).
Now for a head of a state swimming in petrol money and out to buy influence as any of this world politics he may permit himself some strategy hatched out of surrounding circumstances and vociferate all louder for any to hear. This is politics and such do not fetch any value to many reasonable men and women (of this world evolving on new tracks) ,
So one thinks he can minimise any power or its allies by the force( or fear) of his friendship. One said " just let him try his trick as see what deferls !"
Another said money is good in the hands who know its value
(not all of this world!); for those who do not it's dangerous (and may lead to suicide).
What they mean is a quiz !

Hugo is trying to be the next Che; sparking Communist revolutions all over the place; he keeps pushing, he'll end up like Che, with a bullet on his skull.

Dub@ss is asking for a world of hurt and he's going to get his @ss handed to him, regardless of all the Mig-29s and AK-74s he's buying.

If Chavez wanted the world's attention, well he's got it now and he's going to get a faceful of missiles if he stops acting like a moron and start playing nice.
