So as we all know, there has been a lot of contreversy in Canada over the War in Afghanistan. A lot of people want to pull the troops out by 2009.
This is, of course fuelled by the negative media (another soldier was killed blah).
One of the arguments I have seen around various places is about the Afghanis resenting NATO presence in their country...
But maybe you should take a look?

For those of you who are a bit lazy and don't want to look at the link, it is the President of Afghanistan submitting a plea to the Canadian people to stay in Afghanistan.
So, Canada - are we ready to abandon Afghanistan? To abandon over thirty million people? All of the progress we have made - after all, every little girl that gets an education in Kandahar is a Canadian victory...
Your thoughts?

Yeah... What REALLY pisses me off are countries like Austria who donate like, two troops...
And when victory comes they're going to say "Da, we were a vital player in ze coalition"

You don't care about a war because you aren't related to anyone involved...
Oh seriously. So the fate of thirty million people who have ASKED us to be there doesn't matter to you?

I am not Canadian, but I have been making the same argument for some time. I cant tell if the "pull out now" people are racist, so they dont care about people over their being oppressed and killed, or if they are just so short-sighted that they think if the troops leave, that everyone will give each other a big hug and just be friends after that. We realists know the death and mayhem that will occur if a sudden pullout occurs, and its sad to think that it may come to pass if the shortsighted folks get their way.

Your troops are doing great things in Afghanistan, just as ours are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It amazes me that the media refuses to report the successes and that the people and politicians are so willing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Afghanistan is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.
Yes, there are still challenges, but Canada also lost citizens in the WTC on 9/11 and is a part of NATO which pledged to respond to an attack on any of it's members from outside forces.
Canada, you are a valued ally.

Right. Meanwhile the guy who works in the US embassy in Kabul and want to go across the street to another federal agency uses the tunnel they dug to get to it because even in that super protected area, snipers are a reality and you don't even risk crossing that street. So, it's nice of Canada to te there, but unfortunately, once the troops leave, the talibans and other thugs will be back. So sorry.

Your country should have 3 times more troops than what you have. Now, are you aware the Afghanistan government won't allow the USA to destroy the plant that makes heroin? and we support that? What?

I'm not related to anyone over there so I could care less if we pull out tomorrow. Do you think that if all the terrorists in Afghanistan were somehow killed today, that they wouldn't be replaced tomorrow?

Afghanistan and Iraq are the tar-babies (no it is not racist - look it the hell up) of the 21 century. I don't think anybody knows how to let go of them.

I'm pretty sure Canada wont do anything with out the US giving a green light to it though. So you can blame the US again if things turn sour.

If your country is full of tree hugging Liberals and politicians who pander to them like in America, sadly, yes, your government may try to run and hide too.
