Apparently, in the Guard some years ago, you weren't required to learn how to shower in an area where water is at a premium and must be conserved.
The Navy has always taught water conservation while taking showers aboard ship, where fresh water is at a premium. I expect that special forces operating in desert conditions have similar problems.
The best way to teach is to demonstrate. And since they were demonstrating to a bunch of new recruits, they probably weren't worried about it being viewed erotically by some ex-guard, closet voyeur. Did the "burly, tattooed marine" do something for you?
If you have to question the "comradeship" of elite fighting forces and the bonds that they share with each other as a result of training and combat experience, then it is obvious that you have absolutely no understanding of the type and depth of the relationships that can exist between these fighting men.

Not to my knowledge. The close relationship and comradeship in elite and special forces comes usually from the shared experience of living, training and fighting together in very close proximity. Any unit will be much closer after their baptism of fire, but since the elite and special forces will see action more often and also more severe than most units, their esprit de corps is a lot stronger.
There might be the odd hidden homosexual in some special forces units in Britain, but I never encountered one in similar forces of continental Europe (with which I am well familiar as I served in one myself).

Even in this modern day you would be surprised by the amount of young adults both male and female that only shower once a week whether they need one or not. By going back to basics you don't make anyone feel out of the ordinary.

Does it really matter? When you're on the front line, bullets whizzing above your head, bombs blasting all around you, you're highly unlikely to be distracted by the nicely rounded bottom of the guy in front of you.
Silly sod.
