I heard that if the war doesn't stop soon enough, the US will start drafting people. Does anyone know if this is true or likely to happen?

I was attending basic in Great Lakes,IL when I was removed from my division and placed in the VA hospital. I was reported as having 'night terrors' but personnally don't remember having them. At the VA hospital I was diagnosed with depression and a thyroid defeciency. The military liasion said I was receiving a general discharge (which isn't honorable or dishonorable) with an RE-4 code. I was told by HM2 that I would be able to re-enlist in one year from my enlistment date. Now that I'm back home, friends who are in the military tell me an RE-4 is bad news. That I won't be re-enlist no matter what, esp. with the 'depression' on my record and that a recruiter won't even take time to try and upgrade my code. Is this true? What does an RE-4 really mean and will I ever be able to re-enlist ?=*(

As a former Marine, I can tell you, I'll never be hijacked. Shouldn't the government deputize active/former service members on flights?
Also, do you think the Dep of Homeland Security is the next, big, government money pit ?

After signing the enlistment contract and taking the oath is it possible for a person to quit the Army before they leave for Basic Training?

I am curious what options (if any) that person would have between the time time of signing and oath and actually going to Basic Training.

Any insight would be appreciated.

When they have the advantage of air support, naval support and artillary support which make a big difference.. whether its iraq or vietnam America had/has the superiority of all three...

it doesn't take any courage to shoot someone from 200 yards away, or to shoot down at enemies from an attack helicopter while they shoot up at you with rusting ak-47 rifles

US soldiers drop bombs way before they lay a foot on the ground and after, which by the way is the cause of most civilian losses. US soldiers wear full body armor while the Iraqis defending their country wear old dirty rags.

it's like an ant trying to take down a bear, it hardly seems fair. people that work 2 jobs to get an education should be praised and called brave for not taking the easy road and signing up

between terrorism and the 'Shock and Awe' tactics employed in Iraq?

I'm not trying to cause arguments or internet drama or whatever, I'm actually genuinely interested.

The idea behind both concepts seems frighteningly similar: to scare people into submission.

Any thoughts?

I get alot of conflicting answers about which weapons were standard during WWII, my dad would rarely talk about the War.
I have heard some soldiers bought their own, some were traded, etc.

Were all the HUMMVES outfitted with armor prior to being sent to Iraq? and if not why? Is it a money issue?? I hope not.. I understand things get overlooked , but this has to be considered a blunder All HUMMVES should of had some sort of bullet proof glass, doors, or some type of armor..We had from the end of Desert Storm to the begining of Iraq to retro fit our HUMMERS...I find it hard to believe that the US did not see this coming..I know things are 100% better know, this is one case were a lot of injuries and deaths could of have been avoided...Last question, will the armored HUMMVES still float on water?? thanks...........Semper Fi

I heard a lot in the day about cities being "fifth on the list," for example, and I just wondered if there was a list per se, or was it all supposed to happen at once? My hometown had a lot of chemical plants, so we were supposedly "high on the list." Considering the size of that town (Charleston WV) I cant believe we were even on the Soviet maps! Probably part of the general paranoia, right?

The electoral college votes for the president of the USA. Sure, they SHOULD vote for whoever the people vote for but they dont HAVE TO. How much money would it take to buy out the electoral college? How do we know its not bought out already? When do we even vote for these people, what are they called...

Also, didnt Bush win the election over Algore because of electoral votes, not popular votes? Wouldnt that mean that the people did not elect our president into the whitehouse?

Doesnt this mean that amercia is NOT a democracy?
