You're correct in the statement that we cannot force peace down the throats of others, however how can peace flourish if there is no space for it to grow?
One can argue that a man in prison has peace, since there is nothing troubling him except his lack of freedom. But is that true peace, the simple absence of violence? What of the inner peace that is achieved from going outside to enjoy a sunny day?
The United States has made some grave mistakes in the past by removing tyranny only to demand people accept democracy, but it was not with ill intent. The US sees the world through Western eyes, and assumes (incorrectly) that the rest of the world is ready to live in a free and open society.
The presence of tanks and warplanes is only their to further the idealist concept of peace; but it, too, is not with ill intent. Is the US evil for hoping that the people of the world has enough sense and goodwill to find common ground between each other without resorting to oppression and tyranny? Naive, perhaps -but not evil.
I will not give the Western World a free pass -as there has been a history of oppression at their hands too. However, the West is changing, and old habits die hard, and it is understandable to assume that it is Imperialism. But this assumption is naive at the hands of those who the West has liberated.
Observe that the US does not take land. It has not taken land from Kuwait (the Amir returned to power), it did not take land from the Philippines, it did not take land form Korea, it did not take land from Germany, nor will it take land from Iraq or Afghanistan. Every country that I have listed that still have US troops on them have asked them stay.
I fear, my friend, that you have been drinking from a poisoned well. The causes that the militias and terrorists fight for are divisive causes. When the US leaves Iraq and Afghanistan those who were united against the West will turn on each other. Just as the Somalis turned on each other, the Afghans turned on each other, the Palestinians turned on each other, and the Lebanese turned on each other. Is that peace?
No, there is another path -the path where we can all accept a unifying spirituality that there is something greater than us; rather than be at each others throats over the divisive issues of religion and politics.
Does not the Holy Qur'an say in (42:13): "He made it plain to you the religion which He enjoyed upon Noah and which We have revealed to thee, and which We enjoined on Abraham and Moses and Jesus -to establish religion and not be divided therein. Hard for the polytheists is that to which thou callest them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He please, and guides to Himself him who turns (to Him)."
Of which the scholar Maulana Muhammad Ali says, "Even so early did the Qur'an announce that the religion preached by the Prophet was not a new religion, but, so far as its basic principles were concerned, it was the same religion as Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus. The same basic principle of Islam -entire submission to One God only- is, in fact, the basic principle of the common religion of humanity."
42:15 goes on to tell that in the end we will all be gathered together in the Truth.
If we allow men with agendas to divide people along semantics, how can peace ever be achieved by anyone. The West is misguided, but nor more misguided than anybody else to include the Theocracies and Monarchies.
America will go away, eventually. Surely as men die, nations and empires will follow suit -but that does not give the promise of peace anywhere. Perhaps whatever sect of Truth you follow may take power, but with your rules how do you promote Peace in the absolute sense of the word?
So I ask you, what qualifies the peace?

You're right. There is an eery peace that falls over a marketplace, mosque or funeral procession, every time Al-Qaeda blows up some more innocent muslims. It lasts about 2 minutes, but it is there.
Compare that to the peace that lasts after the US military takes out more of these terrorists in a gun battle.
It'll come in time. Peace will be there. You'll feel it.

There is peace and then there is domination. Sunnis, Shittes, Hindus, Christians and Jews work together in the U.S. because of peace. Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sunnis and Shiites fight each other in the Middle East and Africa because their side wants to dominate.

Because there are those who do not want peace that are killing or cleansing innocent people in the name of their own power or their religion. Yes we all want peace, but we will not sit idly by while there are cretins on this planet who live to make people suffer and or die.

Wow. You can really rant with the best of them. Bravo. But peace is obviously the last thing that you are interested in.
