on the one hand there is the idea of why a soldier goes to war but on the other hand there is the idea that non violent protests are braver as you will no doubt either get shot or get your head kicked in and that takes balls to face someone and be prepared to die without hurting them back. is this pure stupidity? could we have defeated the nazis like this or would their panzers have squashed us into the mud?

With the defeat of the immigration bill and amnesty to all, we have stopped the next step Washington was planning. The DRAFT. Yes it’s true, with amnesty we could have drafted thousands of immigrants between the ages of 18 and 25, making them soldiers against the Muslim nation out to kill all non Muslims. It will be a never ending battle (according to them not me) with all one world belief. In addition, Christianity or any other religion will be removed from this planet. The only way to fight this war is reinstating the draft, training a fighting force and off to battle. Now the draft will go ahead as planned and the illegal immigrants will have amnesty from the draft and the natural American citizen will be fighting the war. Thanks Rush.

I asked about dead-end Pentagon investigations and Conservatives answered with personal accusations of conspiracy theories and questions.

They do this all the time.

They rarely ask questions.

And they rarely answer them.

Asking a question, or making an accusation, in response to a question and then not welcoming an answer can only be described as cowardice.

Ok to start off I am recently married (October will be a year) and I have been contemplating joining the military for about 4 years. And the last time I checked my husband was ok with me joining. Right now I am looking at the AF, Army, or National Guard. I am an AF brat, so part of me is leery of the Guard, but it would mean that we stay in our state. I also want to do more than one weekend a month, which leaves me with AF or Army. Honestly the only thing that has stopped me from joining sooner is that I don’t want to be on the front lines. YES I love my country, but spiritually I am not ready to die. I am not concerned about pay; I make more than AF basic pay at my job now. Another thing is my husband loves his job, and if I were to get orders then he may not want to go with me. So once again I am at the Guard. Yes I do plan on talking to my husband some time next week about this, but I am hoping for some one else’s point of view. Thank you for your time.

It seems to go something like this.

Some media reporter, Iraqi or Afghani family reports that American forces have killed 20 civilians and asks the US authorities about it.

They're stock answer is:

We have no information about that (a reporter knows but they don't?) and "we are investigating" that report.

And you basically never hear about that incident from the Pentagon again, though more media reports may follow.

Why is that?

Is it a valuable war secret?
Is telling the truth somehow aiding the enemy?
If you didn't killed civilians and lie this aids the enemy?
if you killed civilians and tell the truth this aids the enemy?
If you killed the enemy and lie this aids the enemy?
The enemy doesn't know whether or not they've been killed?

I don't get it.

P.S. Occasionally there is a followup, but its rare.

I'm currently in the AFROTC at my university and I'm deeply involved with investing and my finances. I wanted to get a projection of how much REAL income I'd be making a month (I've already seen pay scale charts), but I wanted to know what kind of expenses I should expect to be paying. I mean, the military pays for house, food, things such as that, so I was wondering what military men and women really make and what they would need to spend their money on.

Also, this question should be answered with the assumption that I'd be making officer pay and that I'm single. However, it would be great to know typical expenses a married couple would have.

I was wondering how all of this works, He spoke with a recruiter, took some sort of test, chose his field and now goes for some other type of test plus a physical tomorrow. At this point is it a done deal? What could get in his way? Will he come home with a date and time to head to Fort Benning...which is where they said he would go.

Accept my husband if he has gout?
Every now and then he has gout flare up in either one foot or both at the same time and is unable to walk.
He's only 29 years old and it's uncommon for someone his age to have this condition.
He really wants to join but is afraid if he has a gout flare up while in boot camp they will give him a dishonorable discharge.
Could this happen or if he did have gout in boot camp what would happen to him?

I don't like the job I have now. I recently told my recruiter that I would like to switch rates and she said that she is going to try whatever it takes to change my job before I leave for boot camp. She said she will find the other jobs I was qualified for and if there are available spots for the different job I want. She also said if worse comes to worse, I would have to ship off to boot camp and change my job there during the 2nd or 3rd week. Is it possible? Does a classifier talk to every single recruit about their job? Because I know during boot camp, its going to be very on schedule and im going to be consistently doing something so it won't give me the time to ask or request for a classifier. The MAIN THING I am afraid of is that I will not have the chance to talk to a classifier and that I will be stuck with the job I really don't want. Thanks for the people who answer. Joining navy btw

I'm engaged to a guy who wants to go into the army. He's going into the 82nd airborne and will start basic in the fall. His MOS will be infantry.

So my question is: How frequent are deployments? Also how much notice do they give before they actually have to leave? I mean is it a month or just a few days?

I was in the Army Nat'l Guard for 4 years, the last being 2002. I got kicked out for failing a drug test. Since I went to rehab last year, I am now eligible to re-enlist, but I have to go into the nat'l guard for at least 6 months before going active duty. Here are my main reasons for wanting to do this:
1) Get my "General" discharge off my record, and someday turn it into an "Honorable" one
2) I completed 78 hours of College, but lost my scholarship the last semester I was there, thereby endebting me to my college for $7,000. Now they wont release my transcripts until I pay them. The Army will be able to help with this and help me finish College.
3) Travel
4) Start a new Career.I want to change my MOS to something valuable in the civilian world, i.e. Aviation or Medical...my ASVAB score is very high, so I qualify for everything.
Here is my dilemma: I am going to make $45k this year, and next year could make 60, but I sell furniture and it's DULL. Should I stay, or re-enlist?
