I don't like the job I have now. I recently told my recruiter that I would like to switch rates and she said that she is going to try whatever it takes to change my job before I leave for boot camp. She said she will find the other jobs I was qualified for and if there are available spots for the different job I want. She also said if worse comes to worse, I would have to ship off to boot camp and change my job there during the 2nd or 3rd week. Is it possible? Does a classifier talk to every single recruit about their job? Because I know during boot camp, its going to be very on schedule and im going to be consistently doing something so it won't give me the time to ask or request for a classifier. The MAIN THING I am afraid of is that I will not have the chance to talk to a classifier and that I will be stuck with the job I really don't want. Thanks for the people who answer. Joining navy btw

If you are talking about Navy Boot Camp the answer is yes everyone gets to talk with a classifier. They will sort out your likes and dislikes, look at your scores, identify your talents and advise you as to what you are best qualified for. They will give you their recommendations and you can choose from those in order of preference. They know what rates are undermanned and your chances of getting into those rates. You might not get your first or even second choice because assignments are made to meet the needs of the Navy. But classifiers are straight-shooters and try to balance your desires with the needs of the Navy. Welcome aboard!

I'm not in the navy, and I really hope the guy above me isn't leading you astray. I however would not ship unless I had the job I wanted gaurenteed in my contract. The others are correct, you have no obligation to go untill you actually ship out for training. I'd throw that iat the recruiter and I gaurentee they'll try alot harder to change your mos. I never even laid eyes on a classifier while in basics. I'd say don't go until the job u want is in your contract. Once you ship, you'll be at their utter mercy and it'll be hard to get out if they don't offer a job you want.

Look, if they don't change your job before you go to boot camp, then don't go. They don't have you completely obligated to the military until you graduate boot camp. A lot of people I know had this happen and really regret not just telling uncle SAM to lick em.L0L There are other branches you still could switch to, make sure your job description is a broad description. know exactly what you want, and get it, be firm get what you ask for.

Forget what the recruiter told you, their job is to get your name on the contract and that is all. You get whatever the army wants you to have. That is a fact, which you can confirm with people who have served in the military.

I was told the same lie when I joined. Damn near impossible until you complete your first enlistment.

Just remember that you are not locked into anything until you take your final oath at MEPS prior to leaving for basic...Get whatever it is that you want now, once you are gone, it is way too late!!!!

It might be possible in theory, but I'll put it this way: If you don't get it changed before your ship date, it's not going to happen.
