They could have landed troops in Hawaii, established an air base, and harassed the west coast with naval attacks. Industrial might would have still made them lose but they would have held out longer(three or four years) and maybe could have cut a deal that would have left them intact. How do you define win?
The Japanese overran PI in the first months of 1942. Hitting there first would have warned Pearl. However, if they had won the Battle of Midway, or the Battle of Leyete Gulf things would have been slightly different.
They could have not bombed Pearl Harbor. That really pissed of the American people and got us into the war without reservations. If they had taken everything else and met our forces on the high seas (we would have been outnumbered and out manned) the American public would not have wanted annihlation.

No, 70% of the war effort went into Europe 30% went to fighting in the pacific. The japanese made some big mistakes, but even if they did everthing right it would have just taken longer for the U.S. to win.

No there is no way for them to win. First America stopped shipping war building and war fighting materials to japan. This was one of the reasons why they attacked Pearl Harbor. They knew well at least Admiral Yomamoto knew this the one who designed the Pearl Harbor attack. The Japanese Govt. was hoping America would not go to war. The only thing they did was"wake a sleeping giant"the Japanese Govt. was hoping for a quick victory they knew they could not win. But thankfully back in WWII we had people willing to stand of and sacrifice for our country unlike the people in our country today. And yes I have and continue to serve my country.

American industry was cranking out material in such great numbers while making constant improvements. Even if the Japanese were able to pull off major success on the battle field, they were doomed in the long run.

Yes, they could have backed off and concentrated their troops more on the mainland and surrounding islands. They wouldn't have got all of the Pacific, but they'd have a hell of a lot more than they have today.

Nope. Not even Yamamato, the architect of surprise attack over Pearl dare to dream of victory over USA. They just hope to prolong the war to such extent until American got exhausted by heavy toll for war in two fronts and make a honorable peace.

learn how to shoot their rifles for one. I have a Jap type 99 and give me 5 rounds and I would have killed 5 men, accurate as hell. Second, they should have sunk our carriers. Third they could have hit the PHillipines before Pearl Harbor. Even at all of this there is no guarentee.

war, no..
battle, yes.
which battle should we discuss? i can come up with a scenario for each battle that could have waivered in there favor.. midway had many gaps that coud have went there way, it was very close.
.. but ultimately, they would never win the war.. no matter how you rewind it.

No. Their natural resources were and are totally insufficient to support themselves on their tiny island. A blockade would starve them out in just a few months. What were they thinking?
